How Do I Explain This To A Client?

Hi Warriors,

Might have my first offline client.

I was introduced to an owner of an international
manufacturing business.

I casually told him that I do online marketing consulting.

After we spoke for a few minutes I realized that he had no
opt-in page on his site and never really thought about it.

I convinced him how important it is to keep in contact with
past customers (he doesn't really have a system for this).

Anyhow, he's willing to give me a shot at adding an email
capture form on all his pages.

This is good.

While thinking of other services that I can offer, I did some
Google searches using: city, state, his keywords.

Yesterday two of his keywords were ranked on page 3 for
organic google searches. I thought that I can show him this
and sell some services to get him a higher ranking.

When I did the exact same searches today, the two pages that
were ranked on page three are now on page 1 and 2 respectively.

How does this happen?

I don't want to go to a meeting with him and tell him his pages
are ranked on page three of google and when I go to show him,
they are on page one.

Anyone else come across this problem?

What did you say to the client?

Thank you for your help and keep up the good work Warriors.

Mike

First, are you using your own computer for google searching? Google, especially if you're logged in to gmail, artificially drives results up based on your preferences. I found this out the hard way when I thought one of my sites was doing really well and it was actually 8th on page 1, not #1. Based on the one-day improvement, I think this could be what's happening in your case.

I now use scroogle.org (then click on scroogle scraper) to search impartially and get real results.

Thats funny. Because some days my site is ranked #3 in google for the term "offline marketing", and other days, it's nowhere on the first page. Now i see why. Thanks for the insight.

So...what happened in the scroogle search?

You see why I can't suggest anything further, until we know what's really going on, right?

Maybe *I* should get into the IT consulting business...

For one of the keywords they were in the 11th position

For the other they were at 13
