Does mailing postcards work?

In expanding my mobile business, I'm starting to offer text appointment reminders for doctors, dentists, etc. I'm thinking of creating some sort of postcard for a direct mail campaign.

I'm sure the answer depends on what's on the card, but do you think direct mail to these types of clients works? Or will they all just land in the trashcan?

I'm thinking of having a photo of a doctor on the front and it will say something like....

Are Your Patients Missing Appointments?"
Are You Wasting Time Making Appointment Reminder Phone Calls?
Are You Spending Too Much Money Mailing Appointment Reminder Cards?

If So, Then We Have a Solution For You.

Visit www.mysite.com for details or call 555-555-1234.

Do you think that would be too simple or is it just right?
Do you tihnk the secretaries (who probably make the appointment reminder calls) would check out the solution first....then pass it along to the doctor?

Thanks.

Mike

I have found nothing works as well as inbound marketing, but its certainly worth a pop.

I initially started by flyering all the local businesses with a free brochure offering 10 free tips on how to get to the top of google

The advice was golden and way to good to give away for free but thats my stye! It went down well and brought in a few clients

I then switch to inbound marketing and which won hands down but I guess its different for different people place and niches though.

Response rates are pretty low so you will need to send a lot to probably get some clients. You need to evaluate expected roi vs. What you charge and avg. Profit per client. I have found that there are much better ways to spend my marketing budget after trying it once with poor results, but don't have experience with your target industries. May be better off getting a top sales guy on a trial for a month, probably end up costing the same as a direct mail campaign.

I have not had any luck with direct marketing myself. (But, I’ve not tried postcards)

I’ve acquired clients with email, referrals, obviously, and by simply meeting people. If you walk in to a business and your first interaction is as a customer, the business owner is much easier to speak with and you don’t even feel like you are selling.

Postcards can be effective with repeated mailings to the same prospects. The first time they see it, the postcard has no credibility and they throw it out. Fifth or sixth time, they may actually "see" it.

Personally, the only postcard I've ever received that impressed me was from a local restaurant. They owners already had successful restaurants elsewhere and opened a new one in my area. So they had the budget to market this way.

The postcard was a picture of one of the owner's dog...a pug. Complete with the ugly red date stamp. I thought it was hilarious. Didn't know who it was from, but flipped it over to find out and read the offer. Kept it as an example that worked for me.

I've worked for business owners who have tried postcards, but ultimately didn't have the budget to implement effectively. Letters worked better for them.

Postcards and letters work, but they have to have great copywriting and also repeat mailings as kaniganj has said. You got to set yourself apart from other advertisers. If you got you own postcard in the mail, would you take action on it or would you throw it in the trash? Do not try to sell on your postcard, just create enough interest to direct them to a landing page or to a video sales letter that explains the rest of the story.
