OFFLINE MARKETING

Hello warriors,

I have an issue I hope you can fix!

I'm doing some research on niches with google keyword tool and I need some clarification.

I will use Luxemburg as an example here.

Let's say I want to know about dentist niche in Luxemburg.

Keyword tool allows me to choose the location of search, I'll set it to Luxemburg.

Then my keyword would be: dentist, Luxemburg dentist.

Now I assume as Luxemburg is a small place, anyone searching for just "dentist" on google.lu is looking for a dentist in Luxemburg. "Luxemburg dentist" is just as relevant in this case I'd say.

Am I correct assuming this?

To make it broad...

In any small places that google can make a location of search in the keyword tool, "keyword" is just as relevant than "keyword+place"

Right or Wrong?

When setting the location and languages, google will give results for searches made on google.(whatever the place is) and not google.com, correct?

I hope it's clear enough... and that I'm assuming right!

I guess you are using broad search. See the Exact and phrase search also. I believe the number of people searching for the keyword "dentist" will be really low. They are searching different variants of dentist.

So, in my opinion, "keyword+place" is more important and relevant than just the keyword. "keyword" is also important, but not as important as "keyword+place".

Check the search type to "Phrase" and you will be more clear of this.

When you are testing - make sure you change the location (on left side of page) on Google to match the location you are at. In your example, not only do you need to use google.lu, but select Seiten aus Luxemburg or Seiten auf Deutsch to get a true filtering. Even so, a test through a German proxy shows different results than from the US - this is with a clean browser with no cookies.

  I sometimes take the broad phrases for the niche worldwide, i.e. dentist, and see what gets the most traffic and just factor in that a local person will first use the broad term that most often gets used around the world. Then add the local modifier, city name or neighborhood name.
  
  The other thing you can do is run an adwords campaign for each potential keyword and do the exact opposite that you would want to do to get the ad clicked but pay enough that it will show the ad at the #1 spot.
  
  That will give you the amount of impressions/searches are done for each keyword a day (and hopefully your ad copy was so bad no one would actually click your ad!)
