Potential client with intuit patment gateway...need help

I have a potential client that has one of the Intuit web templates with a small ecommerce store attached.

I emailed them with my promo of doing a free website design, with a $50 per month hosting and maintenance fee.

I use Wordpress as my cms, and was wondering if there are any carts that can integrate with their intuit gateway.

They mentioned they are paying $50 per month for their site now, and wondered if they could drop that and just pay for my services. I said sure, but did not see they had that ecommerce section until after I emailed them back.

I am scheduled to call them tomorrow to discuss things, and want to make sure that I can get them an ecommerce solution in place for their new site, and if I need to let them know if it would cost more to do so.

I would share their site, but not sure if they would appreciate it if people start calling them from here.

Anyway, they have a intuit site, with ecommerce cart with around 20 products, that uses the Intuit payment gateway.

How would you approach this client for a re-design using wordpress?

Well you're definitely selling yourself short, and I think you bit off more than you can chew.

1.) If they're using an intuit gateway then they will continue to pay for the intuit gateway even after switching services.

2.) Even if they switch services, then they no longer have the intuit gateway and will need another solution.

3.) You will need a shopping cart that is compatible with authorize.net, and convince them to switch gateways and sign up and all that junk.

All in all, it should be a tough sale and a tough client. Why switch if they will pay the same, and cause them more work THEY have to do? Do they have a REAL merchant account? If not, you're talking even more costs to them, unless you convince them to go with paypal which may be a decent option.

I agree. I will see what they say tomorrow regarding their online products. I will see what they want to do, and go from there. I will be honest and just tell them that my service is $50 without the shopping cart, and see what they want to do.

If they want to use the intuit payment gateway still, anyone know of a Wordpress cart that will integrate?

We will see. This is a promo I am running to get a few clients, then my prices will go up.

I've done quite a bit of ecommerce (I use drupal instead of wordpress, which has great commerce modules) and I can tell you that intuits merchant payment gateway sucks. I've found that all things intuit payment pretty much suck.

Intuit is over 3% per translation I think, kinda like paypal. so if you have a $1000 order, you would pay 30 bucks in the merchant fee.

Selling them on authorize.net + a different merchant won't actually be that tricky since they merchant fee's are going to be lower than intuit.

For my own business, I use merchantwarehouse (if you want a referral link, let me know). If I don't have any charges, I get charged something like $30 bones a month for merchant and authorize.net. If I do have charges, the transaction fee's cover like $20 of that, so its basically just like $10/month.

Not only that, but I have charges all the time that the merchant only charges me .5% on an order if the customer uses the right kind of credit card (maybe its a debit card, who knows).

So on a $1000 order... I'm only charged $5 (again, thats just on a certain type of credit card, but even other types are usually under 2.5%). How many of those does the client need to have to see money being saved.

Just want to let everyone know that I got the client. They do not need to stick with intuit for payments.

So, I will be designing their new site, and install either woo commerce, wp-ecommerce, or some other cart and integrate with either google checkout or PayPal. I am thinking PayPal pro, but not sure yet.

I will show them how to manage their products themselves once set up.

Initial step is to get the agreement signed, get hosting and new domain.
Should be easy once I decide on cart and gateway. They said they will go with whatever I suggest.
