Google Places Optimization

Working on a places listing for a client. In the categories, should I make a custom cat with local city (category) or just the category for their business? If I add the city, will that favor better in SEO rankings for that keyword?

    I believe in categories you are supposed to avoid adding the city in. Do not put los angeles grocery store just put grocery store. If someone else could share some more tips on categories that would be great.

    Hey smonty11, yes, baconman is right. ONLY use the categories that GP lists. Make sure you fill out every field with something, add photos and make sure the file photo name is your primary keyword. You could work your keyword into your description, but don't stuff it in there, it should look natural.

    You should make sure you have a landline phone number and the same address and then sumbit that to all the local directories...insider pages, manta, super pages, etc. Everytime you have the same business information on one of those sites, it is called a citation and you should point back to GP as your website from those local directories.

    No problem! There was a site that you could submit the business information to and they would submit out to about 100 directories. I can't remember the name of it. You might check Fiverr and search for local directory submission.
