How I Made £4850 Plus £1500 recurring Monthly In 3 Weeks

Hi Warriors,

I just wanted to share with you guys how I made £4850 ($7500 apx) And £1500 ($2300 apx) recurring monthly in 3 weeks.

I will show you step by step what I have done to get those results very simple:

Step 1: Search for businesses on yellow pages, local news paper, local magazine, you need to look for builders, plumbers, plasters, painters and so on that don't have a website, more on this in a bit.

Step 2: You need to contact then via, email, text or phone call.

Step 3: Close the deal.

Let's talk about step 1.

You need to search for local businesses that don't have a site but they have paid for an ad on yellow pages, local news paper or local magazine, as you probably know those kind of ads are not cheap. If those people paid for the ads chances are they will pay for a site that cost only £97 plus £30 for hosting, domain and 2 yearly update to the site. You need to target builders, plumbers, plasters, painters because it's very lucky that will never ask you for any update on a regular basis, instead if you go for restaurants, cafes and bars those business will ask you to update the site on a regular basis, change of menu, new event and so on, so avoid those.

Step 2: You can contact them via email, phone call or text messages. I have used something on those line:

Hi there (or name if you have),

We are a small web design company based (what ever you are), we create website for local business and we are running and crazy offer (price) limited to 50 orders. You can see a demo site on (yourdemosite url), call me or text me back for further information.

I personally like to text or email them.

Step 3: closing the deal:

You need to make sure that the prospect agree on the £30 monthly payment and sign an agreement to a minimum of 6 - 12 month contract. For the payment I use paypal because lots of people know about it.

This is the simple system I have used for the past 3 weeks.

I create the sites using wordpress, I have 6-7 premium theme for small business, pm for more info. If you don't know how to use wordpress pm and I will send you 20 free training video.

The sites are between 3 and 5 pages max.

To take it to the next level I am going to outsource the sites building and concentrate on getting as much business as I can, to take my earning to £10k monthly.

I hope you find my post helpful and if you need more help post your questions below and I will try to help you guys as much as I can.

Enjoy,
Simon Fusco

UPDATE: Another way you can use to get business is to use tripadviser, what you need to do in this case is to look for restaurants, hotels, b&b that don't have a website and contact them. Always make sure to check if they don't have a website by serching for the name in google.

      Hi Simon,

What are your "hit rates" on the email you send? ie how many do you send out to get a client?
Do you do keyword research before hand and geo-target the site ie BuilderNorthLondon.co.uk or do you brand it ie BobsBuilders.co.uk.

Is it more to do with providing a basic internet presence that can be used in their other advertising rather than getting a well-ranked lead generation site.

Thank you in advance for your answers and I wish you all the very best in your business..at £1500pm I could give up my regular job ;o)

      Regards,
      Andy
PS I can't PM yet but would be interested to see what themes you use for these small businesses....

        Hi Andy,

Yes I do keyword research and build the site around that. I regards to the "hit rate" so far every 20-25 emails or text I land a client.

        Good luck,

This is a great idea. I am doing a different variotion of this. I am selling mostly mobile websites. I am using dudamobile sites reseller package. This allows me to convert the companies normal website into a mobile site. That way I don't have to discuss a lot of info with the client, just wam bam thank you maam. I charge hosting for this too so I can collect recurring payments as well. The mobiles site syncs with there regular site so in order to update there mobile site they need to update there regular site which does not require intervention from me.

            Hey wings2301,

That's a good strategy, but what kinds of businesses are you selling that service to? I am having trouble thinking of businesses that will need and pay for mobile sites. There is another thread in the mobile sites section (I don't have enough posts to link to it) where the guy was saying he was approaching restaurants because he figured they may be the only ones that need them, but most of them don't want such a service.

I sell sites to builders, carpenters, painters and so on, you can get their details via yellow pages, local paper and local magazine.

Well done Simon, going by your figures I'm guessing you've signed up 50 clients. Sweet.

£30 pm recurring is amazing considering 1and1 dot co dot uk charges £4.99 pm for their basic package.

Is your response rate for cold calling higher or lower than text or email?

Thanks for the tip on businesses to target.

Let's see if I got your math right, in just 3 weeks you got 50 clients @ L97 each and L30 monthly recurring. 50 is a pretty phenomenal number, you landed over 16 a week. Did you do this all by yourself or did you have help sending out the over 1000 emails? Please elaborate on how you obtained all the email addys and or phone numbers to contact. That's one helluva job you did, my hat's off to you and a big congrats.

Are you selling them SEO services also? Here on this side of the pond I've seen charges starting from $500 up to $1000 to get their GPlace listing on the first page and $200 to $250 monthly just to maintain that aspect. Hope you're not leaving all that money on the table.

All done by myself searching and sending text and emails like crazy, I have worked long hours. To build the site take me only 2 hours, I still have 15 left to be complete. The next step will be to outsource the site building.

I get the emails and mobile numbers via yellopages, local magazine, local paper and etc.

The next step will be selling SEO to local business. Remember people that run businesses don't have the time and don't really want to learn about webdesign, marketing, seo and so fort.

That's extremely inspiring to hear that you put in all that hard work. That's going to keep me working just as hard to get it done knowing it can be a reality because Simon has actually done it.

Have you thought about the hosting affiliate money that you can make? As an example, hostgator pays $100 per sign up. If your 50 clients bought hosting through your affiliate link, that would've been another $5000 for you.

This low-cost low-hassle model is one I'm considering. I don't actually want to have clients build a highly dependent relationship with me. e.g. I want to be able to go overseas for months at a time with no problem.
    Hi Cris,

Usually (95% of the time) I close the deal over the phone no need to go around businesses. Exceptionally builders, plumbers, painter they are always on the move.

I have two questions for you.

      1. What is the order process like? Do you just direct them to a page where they click on the Paypal button and pay/subscribe?

      2. Do you stay with them on the phone while they pay?

Best to avoid this route Guardado8, as you'll run into all of the rules and laws surrounding sending "unsolicited spam" via mobile. Could get pretty ugly!

Why is that relevant? The concern about sending spam texts was totally valid, and you shouldn't be suggesting people do it. Just because you're allowed to email or call a business does not mean you can send unsolicited texts to the owner's personal cell.

I've a little twist to your method...What about offering similar service to lawyers?
    Why lawyers?
    - they have A LOT of money (for sure more than plumbers)
    - they have no knowledge about website design etc
    - usually their websites look like crap (check it, seriously, recently I've even read an articles somewhere about poor design of lawyers websites, so you can offer a total redesign to their current websites
    - no need for often updates - they don't need a gallery, menu, event, etc, usually just plain text
So this niche seems pretty nice and easy. After you create the site and charge per month for taking care after it, you build a relationship. When everything works great, both sides are happy and you build the trust, after 2-3 months you can offer many additional things:
    - mobile website (setup fee+extra monthly payment)
    - SEO (extra monthly payment)
    - Google Places (extra montly payment - I know little about it, but I guess it can be a nice thing to offer)
    - build a webiste about lawyers in your town, take it to the first page of Google, and offer them some ads on it (extra monthly fee). Only one/two lawyers from a specific discipline, so they don't have to compete - you'll gain even more trust.
    - maybe a YT channel?
Then, before you notice, you will increase your recurring income from let's say 30$ to 300$. IMHO, 20 clients is a totally REALISTIC number in a big town x 300$ = 6000$.
    Not that bad!
Good tip Marciano, I will send more text in the morning and let you guys know I love the WF!

Websites and SEO you can sell to that many clients these days - similar to telecom services some 20 years ago when you could sell anybody on huge savings. If I were 20 years younger I would jump on this too - but now I rather think of retiring working from my MacBook.

Hi everyone I'm new to this forum, but i have learnt a lot from here. Infact I have set up my own seo business after I learnt some online marketing methods from this great place!

I am based in the UK and have been trying to sell seo services to small businesses. My smallest package is at 199 pounds a month for 5 keywords. Here are my cold calling figures... Please do let me know how am I doing.

Number of calls made so far = 700
Total sales so far = 5 (1 cancelled after a month)
Total number of interested people in the pool (sent quotes to them) = 10

Many were still interested but they either were in a contract with someone else or do not have the money right now.

Any guidance on how am I doing? Is there anything that I need to improve on? Thanks in advance

You have ZERO relationship with any of these people.

          1) Relationship FIRST. Has to be rock-solid.
          2) Objectives to be accomplished.
          3) Measurement of Success
          4) Value - How is the client better off after doing business with you? WHAT is the value of reaching the objectives to be accomplished?
          5) ONLY when you have conceptual agreement on all these things, should you be submitting a proposal/price/fee.

Everyone doing this "offline marketing" thing needs to stop thinking small and backwards. This is beans and pittance. And PLEASE lets start to understand the difference between Consulting & Freelance work.

700 calls?!?! Start with 7 calls and start building relationships.
You are no different than the 700 other people who called them this month.

            Hi Noah Fleming,

Thanks for your reply. But you do sound a bit harsh though Could you please elaborate on what you said?

How do I build a relationship with a prospect? Is it through an appointment?

In my quote I do mention the benefits of SEO and how it can increase their business enquiries. I do mention all the work that we do and what results the client can expect.

What do you think is a good conversion ratio for cold calls?
1 sale for every 100 calls?

Please do guide me as I am quite new to this and also if you can please try not to sound harsh!

You're new. You have a clean slate.

Don't be tricked into building some rickety old house when you have the chance to build a real business.

Attraction over pursuit... Just keep thinking that. Change the dynamic.

Not to derail the thread too much, but what exactly do you sell them? A rank in Google? How much does this cost you?

Reason I ask is that SEO would be a great addition to a 'premium package' site.

Simon, great post. I wouldn't mind the info on the themes and How to use WP. I have been playing around with WP but just don't seem to be getting anywhere fast. I seem alright working with Expression but WP is slightly different.

Any help would be greatly received on this.

Fantastic income and considering it is a slow time of year for some of the trades mentioned.

I still don't have enough posts to PM so I am wondering if you can send me the details you mentioned about WP.

I have been looking to see where you hit the Thanks button but can't find it.

    Anyways Thanks.

    Hi Simon,

Really motivated after reading your post. Great to see that this is working in the UK, I am from Scotland, so wouldn't mind trying this in my local area to see how I get on.

Could you PM me about the WP themes that you use, so I can get a rough idea how the websites look when you've completed them.

    Thanks in advance,

    Marc

nice post! Sometimes it seems so easy to make a decent income, it's all about taking action, believing in yourself and providing value good value to your customers so they are willing to put money out of their wallets - then the business is rolling.
Really nice tip Marciano... Thanks so much for sharing

Hi Simon74, congratulations on such a huge success after just 3 weeks! I've just started cold calling this week offering specific demo sites to small businesses with no website at all. Once I've sent them a link to the site I follow up and try and close the sale. So far I've had 3 requests for demo builds that will be sent out and followed up Monday. It's worth considering sending out an email similar to yours for all the customers I can't get hold of on the phone to increase my hit ratio!

Also great tip about the lawyers Marciano. I've had a look on yell.com and there's quite a few solictors in my area tha don't even have websites!

Thanks for the PM Simon. I can't PM you back yet so I'm replying here instead. I'd love to know if anyone in Scotland is applying these types of methods. We're very known to be tight with money up here  So getting people to say yes to an offer may be a little harder, but hey, it's all about letting them know the potential for their business. That example site you have shown me is currently number 1 on Google for that specific keyword and it appears that it's there mainly with just On-page SEO.

Great work Simon and I'm glad I've noticed this topic.

Don't worry about other people, be the first to do it, you got nothing to lose, the worst thing can happen will be a no as a answer. Get a bit of knowledge about any services you want to offer and go for it. You have lots of free stuff here in the WF, you are already ahead of most people out there.

        Best of luck,

I would also like a PM Simon please to view the site you have at number 1 . I tried a similar method with local builders and wasted a lot of time trying to seo the site to page 1, got some crappy fiverr gid that got the site de-indexed after it landing steady on page 2 with only the on page seo

I tried a few builders in Scotland who were leads from a business mortgage broker friend offering FREE websites and none got back to me. But it was only a handful of builders so can't really take that as a ball park

being a fellow UK marketer, i have to say that this really does work...you just have to take action, my business is run along similar lines as Simons'.

here's some figures for you on my latest deal that i recently closed

£7k upfront for website, link building, hosting etc
£2k per month for link building for 12 months plus % of profits

note-to be able to charge this you do need to know about SEO and be able to set up a proper wordpress site, not just a 3-5 page site

How many pages was the website you created for them? Was it priced higher due to services offered of design or combo? Was it a complex site?

    Good job,

This is my first post and I am just starting off. How do you offer hosting, do you have your own hosting servers? I don't know anything about hosting but it would be nice to have a recurring income.

I came to the offline thread because I think combining offline marketing with online is the best way to go since you get way more targeted traffic.

      Hi,

To offer hosting you need to buy any hosting reseller package.

      Hey Simon,

Which text messaging company do you use in sending out the sms messages and how do you get the businesses to opt in to receive the texts?

I tried cold-calling last week and discovered a deep dislike for it, so contemplating going down the email and/or sms route.

I just need to know how to get the businesses to opt in first.

        Hi Dayo,

I started to send messages via my mobile first, here in UK you get lots of free text messages on a monthly basis. If you are in the UK a company you could use will be textmarketer.co.uk

      Hello Simon,

I would like to get the videos and themes too. Can you pm them to me also?

      Thank you!

I actually started selling sites to small business this week and so far have made $600. Earlier I was selling mobile websites but I wasn't getting the results I wanted out of it. Granted I did sell 8 mobile sites to different kinds of businesses and will definitely still look to be selling these sites, but I just find it easier and it makes more sense to me right now to sell websites as a shoe in to upselling marketing services.

Selling websites and mobile sites is absolutely possible, and the only method I've been able to use with success is by cold calling. Yellowpages is a great source to find businesses. I am here in the US.

On the mobile sites I managed to get two recurring clients, I do SMS marketing and email marketing for one of my clients and he has paid me 200 to 300 dollars every month since October, and so has my restaurant client.

We actually got 13 new clients for my personal training client.

Anyways websites so far is the perfect shoe in service to getting a client to trust you and continue selling services to them. Especially if you manage to get a recurring income from the websites. If you continue to work at it, you will have a long list of clients to upsell too, money coming in every month, and with the money coming in after a few months of hard work and marketing we can scale things up and hire people to do the appointments and sales for you.

      That's my goal.

      Anyways, nice post Simon.

I just want to clarify that I charge £30 for hosting, domain and 3 yearly update. But remember that people don't have time (especially traders, like plumbers, painters, builders)

Further to my last post, I'm doing my “due diligence” on this, and have a couple of other questions.

You say you close most of the deals over the phone and send the customer a contract to sign, do you e-mail this to them and get them to send it back in the post, or do you post it to them and wait for them to return it? Are there many people who “bail out”at that stage?

Do you take a deposit when you close the deal? Have you had any problems with people not paying after everything has been set up?

I ask because I abandoned a previous offline venture (designing brochures back in the 1990's) because of similar problems.

I do the majority of my business this way (invoicing via email) and have not had problems, but I don't deliver any projects until I get paid. I let them know *I can get started on the project right away, BUT I will not be able to deliver anything until the invoice is paid.*

You can avoid payment hassles by asking them *are you able to access your email right now so I can send the invoice* If their answer is no, you let them know payment is to be made within 24/48 hrs (or how ever long you're willing to wait) but also let them know they won't get the ending result until payment is made. That way, you don't waste your time!

Don't think too much into it. If you call a plumber you can't tell him *I need you to unclog my sink today, but I can't get to the bank until Wednesday, so you'll just have to wait..but thanks for your services anyway* lol They expect to get paid upfront, so should you!

      Hope that helps..

    Hi Guys,

I just wanted to update you about Marciano idea.

I have contacted about 30 Lawyers since yesterday and I close I sell and another 2 will get back to me by the end of the week. I couldn't send text to the prospects because on the yellow pages listing majority of the time (95%) you get only office numbers or email, so I tried the cold calling this time and it worked quite well so far.

Also I got lots of email from you guys asking me if I would consider to do a WSO, the answer is yes of course, I just wanted to ask to the people that are interested how much would you pay for a tep by step guide?

Keep you posted on the progress.

Simon I was rereading this post and using it as the basis for something similar I'm working on. I like the way you are sending texts and note you say they should keep them to the point.

I wondered what exactly you said in your texts, do you include a few words of introduction and then state you are offering a website for $97.

I would appreciate any guidance on what specifically worked for you.

Many thanks for a great post.

    Hey Simon,

LOVE what your doing and I'm glad it's working for you. There really are so many opportunities out there for people like us and it really does take just doing it.

I have one question. Why are you selling your websites for such a little price? £97 to me sounds cheap. I'll give a better explanation on what I mean...

    There's two watches. (A) is priced £99 and (B) is priced £399.

Would you rather have (A) or (B)?

The fact you went for (B) shows that you, like the rest of us have a recognition of value. Both of the watches were only worth £99. But you paid £399 because your mind told you that it held more value and therefore was the better option.

Seriously, up your prices. Not to sound harsh, but I've actually made business from clients that have bought a £99 website by simply upping the price and influencing them (through the concept of value) to be my clients. They also pay £75-100 a month for SEO services and social media. I also offer Facebook advertising campaign setups and a few more extras if they need them. I charge £30 for any updates that need doing and I do very well.

I urge you to read the book "Influence". It will literally change your life, I promise.

Good luck dude, you're an inspiration to the people.

No he didn't. He said £97 upfront and £30 recurring.

      He has 50 customers.

      50 x £97 = £4850
      50 x £30 = £1500 recurring.

Spot those figures anywhere? For example the title of the thread.

    Nice, some good figures there.

Have you thought of up-selling then another service, there are plenty out there that businesses need if they want a good web presence in their local area like:

    SEO
    Google+
    Google Places
    Mobile Site

I'm pretty sure all of these can be outsources aswell, you could try following up your customers with a postcard or phone call saying something like "as a special offer to new customers we are offering SEO at half price..."

If they're happy with your past work they'll probably accept an upgraded offer so long as you sell it to them properly and show them how valuable your services are.

Thanks for the swift PM Simon. I'm really grateful for your help.

One last question which I hope you can help me with being from the UK yourself. Where do you find your info for people with no site? I've been on yell.com and thats great for showing me who has no site, but it doesn't give me any email addresses, only phone numbers. I will have to have a look in the book as well as the site I suppose.

Do you have a method for automating it, or do you just spend time looking at the yell site and the book?

    Thanks

I must say your post as stopped me in my tracks because I've been thinking whether on not to sell as site I've got ranked on google.co.uk page 1 position 5 for "UK Website Leasing" but you may have given me the inspiration to crack on with my original plan which was basically the same as you've done.

I got it ranked and never finished it. I still may try & sell it if anyone's interested but just in case is there any chance you could send me those business themes please.

Congrats again & Thanks For the inspiration

Really inspiring post! It's actually what I am trying to get going as well. I am just picking a niche right now and building the list and will get on the phones later this week.

I have a couple of local business themes but am curious to know which ones have been working for you. I saw someone else ask you and you told them to PM you.

If you can give me some insight as to what themes work with local businesses it would be much appreciated.

    Keep up the great work!

P.S - My post count is not high enough to PM you, so if you can PM me the info it would be awesome. Thanks

    Hi Simon,

    Many thanks for your pm

I have a couple of questions if you wouldnt mind answering them?

Are you building these test sites on exact match domains prior to selling them?
I suppose if you built plumberslondon.co.uk then your leverage is smaller as you can only contact london plumbers? Could you give me more of an idea of how u do this without going too much into specifics?

If you were targeting plumbers first would you build the test site then target plumbers then move on to the next trade?

Do you sell the same site to multiple plumbers using the same test site?

I have a hostnine reseller account but I presume hostgator have a better affiliate program

Purchased your wso the other day, some really good stuff in there mate

Look forward to your response mate when you get the time.

    Hi again Simon.

I thought I'd update you with my progress having implemented your methods today. I wondered if either you or imwarrior84 who have both had success with this could give me further advice, perhaps by email as I cannot PM.

I've built my list and today decided to send off 100 texts to start. Its not the largest sample but I was eager to make a start! I went for the handyman type niche, so plumbers, electricians, etc. Tomorrow I plan to up that to 2-300. I sent it in the same format as the one you mentioned in your first post.

Unfortunately I only received one response from the 100, who called me back. I was quite nervous, and he seemed to really know his stuff, which threw me off guard a little bit, as I am new to all this, and have no experience in sales! The guy will go away and look at my site, he wanted to see a portfolio, but at this point I don't have one, and he will let me know by the end of the week if he is interested. I have a site which I built for my business, which I am pleased with, but was curious about the sites you were using, and if you had a large portfolio to show potential clients?

I may have been going by stereotype, but I wasn't expecting the person on the line to know about HTML/Wordpress, servers etc. Is this common, or are they usually less knowledgable? What methods do you use to convert those that are showing an interest into an actual sale?

Also what sort of response rate do you get? I had only a 1% call back rate. Of the people who get in touch with you, the warm leads, what sort of % of these do you convert?

Overall I am pretty pleased with how today went, I took action which is the main thing. Having read around on this forum, the customer I am looking for is someone who is actively interested in buying a site, and 1% of my contacts fitted this category, though this was with too small of a sample to make any real conclusions.

My goal tomorrow is to send out alot more texts, and hopefully have the opportunity to speak to more decision makers, so hopefully I can build my confidence and composure when making the sale, as I felt I was a little too nervous, although I didn't do awfully. But the main goal is to close a sale. This will give me the capital and confidence to invest in a proper set up (good headset and autodialler) to make calls.

    Sorry about all the questions!!

      Hi denis,

I have followed Simon system and got great results, but also I have implemented my own strategy. You need to try different things out because maybe in your area or city people react differently. I also go around newsagents, coffe shop any where where I find business cards without a website. I don't just text people but I call them aswell. If they don't reply to your text give them a call and you will be suppried on how many actually take the offer on.

Gays give Simon system/strategy a go because it works.

      Best of luck

A quick update at the end of day 2 of texting local businesses. A futher 300 texts today, to add to the 100 sent yesterday.

I have still yet to receive a single text response, but today I had a call to add to the one I had yesterday. But still no sales

I have followed the exact methods you outlined in your first post, I have taken phone numbers from local noticeboards, from my local yellow page books as well as a couple of online directories and have been spreading my texts across numbers collected in each of these forms.

Whilst I can see that this method will get you clients if I keep persisting I am unsure as to how you were getting a sale every 20-25 approaches. Given those numbers you would have between 16 and 20 clients whilst I have zero. I don't doubt you, I am just unsure what I am doing wrong! I'm not even getting a warm lead every 20-25 approaches, let alone a sale, it is so far one in every 200 messages for a response to my message!

Has anyone else gained any success with this method that could perhaps give me some pointers?

Great job and many congrats to you! I'm now getting into marketing (have always had an interest in it but never honed it into a focus). Your approach is similar to what I though to of doing just never saw anyone who actually did it. So thanks for posting as it's helped me tremendously. Would you mind sending the themes, video and sample site to me as well? I would truly appreciate that. I can't seem to PM yet so would appreciate it you can send to socialextreme (at) yahoo.

Bit of a typo there I assume :p

Thanks for your response. You said you gained great result by using Simons methods, does that mean when you started it you used his method exactly before tailoring to make it your own? It is my intention to start cold calling asap, I have built a list, I just want to make a single sale to build my confidence and so I can reinvest the revenue into a set up suitable for cold calling.

I am getting a little disheartened, I am following the method exactly as mentioned. I am now 600 texts in and not a single sale. Today I contacted a further 200 businesses, all without a website, and didn't have a single response! So 600 texts, 0 sales and 2 warm leads. Simon said he was making a sale every 20-25. Either his numbers were wrong or he was doing something in addition to what he mentioned in his post, or I am doing something wrong. I think I have sent enough texts out to eliminate any sort of statistical anomoly now.

As I mentioned before, I still have faith that using this method you can make sales. I have had two calls back, and will be getting back in contact with them both on Monday, where I will hopefully get that first sale. So to any newbies reading this I would still recommend giving it a crack, its a low budget set up and therefore low risk, however I would perhaps revise your expectations. When I started, I thought the figures were quite high, therefore was aiming for a 0.5% sale rate from my contacts, which is 10 times lower than Simons highest figures. I haven't even achieved this.

I will keep going, and keep reporting how I'm doing for anyone who is interested, and who knows maybe Monday will be my breakthrough day!

      Hi Dennis797,

As Imwarrior84 said in every area or places you will get different results so you need to understand your prospects. Are you showing them a sample site? If they don't reply to your text call them. What I am trying to say is to don't give up or feel down because at your first try you only got 2 reply.

Also when it is time to pay, do you just give them your paypal or what?

Step 2: You can contact them via email, phone call or text messages.I have used something on those line:

    Enjoy,
    Simon Fusco

    Hi Simon,

Thanks for the response. In the text I have sent I have been sending a link to my website. Can you tell me what sort of % rate you got for sales just from a text where the customer called you back? I will have to start calling the numbers on the list I created as hopefully this will generate more success for me. It is possible that different areas give you different success rates, but I am covering all the major cities in the Midlands and still haven't had any luck from texting alone!

A little update on todays efforts, first thing in the morning, I decided to call the second warm lead again, as I realise I had played things a little wrong. She is interested, I offered to make her a mock up home page and if she likes I will continue and complete the site. I also think the money upfront may be an issue, but she was happy to pay a higher monthly fee on top of the hosting costs. Whilst not ideal I'm thinking I have to start somewhere and getting some sort of payment will do my confidence good.

I then continued my texting, sending around 200 more today. No call backs, but I had some text responses for the first time! No leads but I was expecting simple 'No thanks' texts fairly frequently, but my first 700 or so texts I didn't get one person doing that. One person was nice and wished me good luck but said they had just bought a site.

One person responded 'STOP' believing it was some sort of automated texting service which I found interesting. One of the reasons I think so few people have took my bait is just that reason. I've played around with about 3 different versions of the text I'm sending, but was always concerned it looked like some spammy automated text service, no matter how personal I tried to come across. This might have cost me several sales from interested people.

The next step for me is to start cold calling I think. I think my problem with texts is that I don't really know if I'm getting a 'no' or they are just ignoring the text, but with cold calling I at least get to hear their answer and then move onto the next. I appreciate you posting this method still, and I'm grateful that it got me to take action which I'm sure will eventually pay off for me!

All the best with your methods in the future and I'd very much like to hear an update of where you're at now as you mentioned you had a plan in place to expand?

Just a heads up. Are you aware that you are breaking the law by sending unsolicited SMS to sole traders such as these? You need to have consent or it's considered spam and the fine can be anything up to £5000

It's ok to send unsolicited SMS to limited companies but you will find most tradesmen are 'sole traders' here in this country.

Here's an article that covers it.

Email and SMS marketing - staying on the right side of the law | Startups

You may well get away with it but be careful advising others to do the same.

This also covers Email as well.

I never advised anyone to do anything, we all are adult we need to do our own risk assessment and research. I get promotional messages all the time from companies via text ( I am talking about big companies) so I am sure that there is a loophole some where as always. But like everything in life you need to do your own research before taking any actions.

Step 2: You can contact them via email, phone call or text messages.I have used something on those line:

    Enjoy,
    Simon Fusco
P.S. if you like the post I would appreciate if you click the thanks button

If you don't know how to add the thanks see below:

    Thanks-wf - SimonFusco's library

Good idea..can make you some quick money but your customer doesn't get anything out of the site if he doesn't rank on search engine, without it, to acquire customer ..the site owner will have to advertise his site somewhere ..So making site doesn't help him...if u don't get the site onto the search rankings...you could plug in SEO as an additional service...

    Cheers!

If you need proof you can make that much money selling websites to local businesses then this method is not for you.

OP has went out of his way to offer up his method he used to sell websites.

In 3 weeks you contacted approximately 1250 local businesses, and closed approximately 50 deals. That's realistic if your conversion is high, because that would only be about 60 emails a day (if working 7 days a week) which is about 7 per hour (if 8 hours a day). Not unachievable. The thing I would ask is how the heck did you find 1250 contractors without a website in one city? That's incredible.

I lived in London at the time and there are over 8 mil people living in the city, very easy to do that if you put the time to it. Hard work is the key here.

I'm very late finding this thread ... it's fantastic! Could I ask you, Simon, to also send me the videos for WP training, themes, etc? I don't have enough posts to PM, but my email address is linda (at) top-tour-of-spain.com ... many thanks.

I expect that, by now, dennis797 has plenty of customers. But I think that, after reading his experiences, when I start offering this service, I'll probably do 2 or 3 for free (except for the monthly charge), so that I've got a small portfolio to show, ideally of local small businesses, and that prospective clients I contact will be tempted to pay for a similar website.

I am thinking of experimenting with my own little twist on the cold calling pitch, by telling them that since looking through the yellow pages all their competitors have websites except for them! (which will give them a feeling of being left out and hopefully spark more interest in a website).

Hey Simon, great idea! Will try this out and report back in a week.

Can you PM an example site you have done just so I have an understanding of the type of quality you are providing?

Also, £30 per month for hosting seems like quite a lot. Maybe you would get better conversions if it was less?

Also, with reseller hosting, can you set custom prices. So did you decide to set it as £30 when you could have set it as £5?

I actually just finished building a website for a guy I met through work and he had a friend who was interested too. So I imagine you might get some work through that way too. Maybe like a "refer a friend to receive £5 off" or something.

    Thanks again!

Just seen something interesting on Sky news this morning in the UK

There is going to be a major clampdown on spam text with fines upto £500,000 - primarily aimed at these accident and ppi companies, but could also affect anyone texting for marketing purposes.

Hey, I also seen this yesterday, however, these couple were targetting individuals, which is against the law without a double optin, however business texts are not covered under these regulations, I have looked into this in great detail and as long as you follow a few simple guidelines it is not illegal to text potential business customers.

    Hi Simon,
I just wanted to inform you that your method works wonders!
My team and I have hired a full time VA - Lead Generator, to do most of the prospecting, that is followed by my 2 partners qualifying the leads and I give the follow up call and close the deal. so far we were able to close 2 customers from a list of 50! needless to say many of them were very interested mainly because of the price but were not comfortable with making a decision today.
I do have to ask you, what do you include in the simple website?
Could you please send me an example of such site? thank you very much!

    Cheers!

      Cheers!

Very glad you are having success with the method! If you put into action the system works really well.

Thanks Simon, i'm 2 posts away from being able to PM, so I'll just paste what i was going to say here:

Thanks for the response! Those templates look good. I have a few of my own I think I could put to use too.

I have got the yellow pages and Thompson local and will start contacting people.

Do you find you spend a long time getting details from the client etc?

Do you have many people say they don't like the design?

    Thanks Simon
