Long story short guys first post on WF, been reading for what seems like forever. Well fast forward a year after receiving a load of valuable information I finally took action with my wife and we were able to put together some meetings with owners. Well i met with a owner and he has a acupuncture business. After talking with him for awhile his main focus is getting advertisers for his website. He cares nothing of what his site looks like and wants just a side bar for advertisements he cares nothing of where they come from he just wants a steady flow of advertisers paying him monthly. So Ive told him no one is going to want to advertise on his company without it receiving traffic first and so on. He then tells me he doesnt want a website he wants youtube videos with advertisements at the end of the video. So i guess my question is how can i go about getting him some local advertisers or something in those lines. Any suggestions and feedback appreciated.

I doubt enough people would be watching his videos or visiting his website to make it worthwhile to advertise on. It seems like he wants advertising which is sure to pay for itself, which can be done, but not in the ways he is suggesting. It should pay for itself via increased business to his practice, and you can help him create offers which can be tracked. You could create a direct mail newsletter for him titled Healthy Living, and then run his ad in it, along with some ads for a local health food store, etc.

Congrats on "taking action". I think you have fallen into a trap many do when they first start out. Not everybody is worth helping, and I think you might be in a position with this prospect that is going to cost you far more time than the money he is going to pay you.

If he isn't getting enough traffic to his videos right now, then what makes him think someone is going to want to advertise? Why wouldn't he want you to help increase his business instead of finding people to advertise at the end of his videos?

@ Joseph: You say "he has a acupuncture business" but it sounds he's advertising business owner wannabe. Where comes his business into this story??

    So here's the deal.

Whenever someone calls you in and acts like this, run, because you will have nothing but heartburn from it.

Sure, it might be worth it to say "hey I've been doing this for X years and I can tell you that your plan to [stupid plan here] won't work because of [literally you could make up something because this plan is so stupid]."

If the client says anything but "yeah, I can see the error of my ways, you're right - tell me how you'd do it."

    Run.

I would agree with the posters. It all depends on your threshold for pain. Maybe you can get him to stick you with some pins first!

A couple of observations and then a couple options....
    • He doesn't seem interested in promoting his business but does see himself as an ad guru wanabee. Ask him to change his business to Dr. Pinns Ad agency.
    • He wants you to do the grunt work and build a platform.
    • Ask him whose job it is finding these advertisers?

    Options:
    • Shake his hand and say good luck and run the other way. *best option
    • Charge him one time $15,000-$20,000 and build him an ad or directory site. (Outsource offshore and be the middleman with a nice profit. Also outsource support and SEO when done for say $500/mo. or more as necessary )
    • Go the other extreme and build him a simple ad-sense site for $1995 with a lot of extra room for banners, etc. and outsource SEO and support. Then $295-$495 mo. maintenance.
    • Make him a WP review Blog site on alternative medicine and healing. Tell him to pick out 10 products he knows something about. Find affiliate offer networks that you can link to. Tell him to use his authority as a doctor and write reviews. Outsource SEO build lists and split the whole mess with him 50/50. (However, he covers initial set up costs. It's his dream!)
    • Sell him as a lead to someone who wants a challenge or is desperate.
    • Keep this thread alive, ask for suggestions and ask questions
    • Reconsider 1st option.
    • Reconsider 1st option again
I know. You want to get something out of it. Prospects have value. Shoot high and stay there if he bites. If he is a PITA make sure you are well compensated. Consider selling him on Clickbank to someone
