Pumped! Sucess with cold calling finally (three different scripts)

Thanks to this forum...I have done everything from hire sales people from hire sales people on commission to renting websites (both of which I'm still doing and haven't given up on but haven't performed to my liking).

I have done website sales in the past but was poorly trained. I still did a good job until the company went out of business and most of it was cold calling. I decided to go back to my roots and bang out a bunch of calls today. I didn't count messages left or wrong numbers and motivated myself by saying it's a numbers game after every call. I only counted how many times I spoke to someone which was about 20. Out of those 20 no one wanted a website. Later today I get a call back from two people and one wants a basic site and the other is a big business owner in a small town ( he wants six!!!).

Its funny how I cold call. I had a script like the one below and as I made more calls I could feel my confidence coming back. By the time I was done I wasn't even using the script any more and had my intro down to a basic phrase ( which would open up for conversation from there). Feels good to get it back and I'll be making more calls in about an hour or so

How my script transformed:

script 1:

Hello, My name is Jim ... Hope you're doing well today,

I noticed you guys don't have website

To save you some time I made you guys a free website demo and I just needed to know who to email it to?

If you like it we can talk further, I'm really affordable, if not you can keep it for future reference for free. No biggie.

... its free, if nothing else for futures reference if you're not interested in having a website now.

Script 2 (after 30 calls):
This is Jim ... Hope you are doing good today, listen, I don't want to take up too much of your time but I'm a local web designer and I'm shooting out free demo websites to local business.
... its free, if nothing else for futures reference if you're not interested in having a website now.

Script 3:
Hello, My name is ... Hope you're doing well today,

I noticed you guys don't have a website and you're listed in so many directories online. I'm creating free demos for business in (name of town) for today only....have conversation from there which I'm really good at.

Any advice or suggestions would be a blessing. Thank for everyone that helps to contribute to this wonderful knowledge base we have here.

Script #1 stinks because at the end you tell them it's okay not to be interested. In fact you do it twice. It almost sounds like you don't want them to be interested.

Script #2 is so bad I won't even address it, other than to say that I can tell you had gotten too many rejections in a row and you got spooked. But, you were asking them to reject you.

Get back on the phone and modify #1 or #3 as above and and ask for an appointment too.

You should do really well this way if you make enough dials. Make the calls. I think you'll have good results.

I've made at least 500,000 cold call dials in my lifetime. I still get spooked from time to time when I hear "not interested" too many times in a row. You will have streaks where you get 6 sales in a row, too. It's just a function of the law of large numbers.

Make sure you're not unwittingly prompting them to say "not interested" and make the next call.

    Hey Him,
Firstly, kudos on coming up with a script for cold calling.
Perhaps you could include something along the lines of "... would be great if you could get back to me in 3 days" just to give the prospective client a call to action.
    Hope it helps

What? It's free if they don't like it? I'm confused. I would suggest you take the part about them keeping it out (I don't really know what *it* is..the website or the demo??)

You could also have the demo made before you call them, that way you can say *hey I just made a website built specifically for your industry I just need your email address to send you the link so you can check it out* Or something along those lines. This way, they can immediately see the demo instead of having to wait for you to build it, then wait for you to build the real site.

You can also take out *you're listed in so many directories online.* They already know that so the only reason you would be pointing it out is to suggest that they're listings are a problem, but yet you offered them no solution, so it was pretty much useless to bring it up. Now if you would have told them how having a website could compliment those listings, then there's the solution, but don't just point out the problem if you're not going to come up with a solution, no one wants to only hear how their marketing sucks lol

Just make small changes and keep dialing and you will be fine. It is a numbers game, but once you get better at the selling aspect of it, you can decrease those numbers A LOT.

I'd take 3 and modify it more.

I'm one of those people on the other end of the line and I know it's a sales call when they ask me how my day is going. Personally I like direct and to the point.

Also don't bring up free or any price at first. Use the script to get me talking and than sell me on what you have.

"Hello my name is Aaron. I run a local web design company and I noticed your company did not have a website. May I ask why?"

Something like that would get me talking. But the best to do it change it up and test it. The sample size has to be large enough to know what is and isn't working. Also if you sell SEO and other services it gives you an opening when they reply back, "I have a website".

Then you can go into how you couldn't find it and really start talking about how as a customer you were frustrated by the fact you didn't find them.

I'm glad you pointed that out. A lot of people think they HAVE to say that, I don't say it anymore for the very same reason you pointed out. They know you don't care about how their day is going (even if you do, they don't believe that you do.)

Just get to the point and get them talking and better yet, answering questions!

by the way, the opening is something VERY SIMPLE to use and get passed a gatekeeper. It isn't rocket science, just very easy, sound natural.

Great thread here... inspiring and educational all in one I really like the sample scripts from Nate and Aaron.

I agree that you should not offer them for free. I know some suggest that but your time is valuable. Having said that though, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. LOL You made calls and had 2 sales, correct. Take some of the suggestions here and make 6 sales next time. Best of Luck to you!!

    Thanks,
    Kim
