A Million Little Salesmen for Your Offline Services

I'm going to out one of my personal methods for generating new offline clients. This method is wide open and everyone running an offline business can take advantage of it.

I call the method "A Million Little Salesmen." The reason I call it that is, across the United States there are millions of little kids that get in front of Business Owners one time a year.

Are you ready for this?: Sports Team Fund Raising

"According to the Center for Kids First in Sports, the number of kids playing organized sports in America averages between 30 and 40 million a year."

Kids who play Softball, Baseball, Football, Soccer, and a few other recreational sports on a team in or out of school are "semi-required/pressured" to do fund raising for their individual teams.

The teams need money for Jerseys, Equipment, Travel Expenses, Trophies, etc so they recruit the kids to go out and raise the money in various ways.

This idea came to me one day when I heard of a friends child asking their parent to take them to businesses around town so they could ask for a donation from the business owner. I was amazed to learn that due to a kid's natural charm they nearly always met the owner and most of the time got a donation. That's when the idea clicked for me!

Approach the managers of the teams, and have them get the kids to hand my offer directly to the business owner whether or not a donation was made to the team.

If the owner became a client, the team would get X% of the amount the new client was billed for upon first transaction.

The kid is already in front of the business owner, so there is no extra work involved for them other than handing a postcard sized offer with a coupon to the owner and telling them of the opportunity.

Have the kid hand them a 3x5ish postcard with your offer on it, and watch the local clients start calling you.

I'd recommend you offer a Free Website Consultation, and Online Advertising Analysis to the company, and have them call the number on the postcard to take advantage.

This idea is infinitely scaleable - imagine how many teams there are in the United States.

This works well for me on my local market, and has consistently brought business in. I know it can for you too!

Have you tried this personally? What were the teams reactions?

That's a great idea. I would guess the team's are fine with it since they are already meeting with business owners in the first place.

However that wouldn't really help a company targeting b2b clients. These kids are probably going more to their local food places and consumer stores. So if your selling seo or ppc that's okay but if you need business services firms they probably don't see many of them.

Overall a great idea though. Very creative.

      Man, you're on fire Nathan.

There was actually an unannounced WSO bonus from Jerome007 last year that highlights this particular method of offline prospecting very smoothly.

I'd mentioned it to my 7th grade daughter, who's very active in student council, back in the fall about offering my services as a school fundraiser unfortunately I didn't have the confidence nor a quick product that I thought I could ramp up quickly and successfully as a lone consultant during that time.

Fast forward with your helpful reminder and my focus on mobile site demos, I think this would be a great product to have the kids promote for free mobile site mock ups to local businesses. I could essentially give the school the set up fee portion to make it worth their while, maybe $50-$100, and keep the remaining $199-$299?

Thanks for bringing this up. I tell ya', I have too much stuff on my hard drive that I've forgotten about. Nathan if you'd like to compare notes with the info I have, just pm me.

This one method I believe my dear friend should work quite well.

      Thanks!

Maybe do the same thing for boy scout's apple drives. I am sure they would love to double or triple their fund raising. A postcard with a good autumn offer would be great.

Now that I look back on my childhood, that was my first sales/marketing job. Man was I nervous doing door to door apple sales. Still have that nervousness at first.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

I heard one guy talking about how he offered a workshop for small businesses that he allowed the schools to sell as a fundraiser. So the kids go around selling the tickets for $97, $147 or whatever, you split it 50 - 50, you get use of their auditorium or classroom to hold the workshop, and then you teach the business owners all the various things they can do to grow their business. Make it useful, but make them take notes. You don't want to give them a handout that they could just show their IT guy or neighbor's kid to do everything for them, you want them calling you for assistance if they get overwhelmed.

I think this is a brilliant idea. Even sponsoring the box or having - Gold sponsor is "XYZ " on the box would be a great way to get the soldiers out there
