10/100 calls.. my script and positive result so far (NEWB)

Hey guys,

I started my first day of cold calling..

Understand that: I have NO clue what I'm doing, but here is my script and my results thus far.

I did 10 calls in 1 hour. And plan on doing 100 total before the day is done

Hey good morning,
My name is XXX. I'm a Graphic designer for small businesses in LA. I wanted to speak to someone about designing a website for the company

Initially I was ending it with "who can I speak to about building a website for the company?" That prompted a different response. The individual who picked up would tell me "His name is SO AND SO... You'd have to call him back..." or something like that.. When I changed it to "I wanted to speak to someone about designing a website for the company.." that put them in a different position. They are not answering a question, they now have to complete the dialogue by hanging up or talking to me... This derives from my days of successfully seducing women.. When speaking I only made Statements and never asked questions.. This way they'd have to complete the thought of dialogue.. Not too sure if that will help with cold calling, but hey it's my first day why not see what works

Out of the 10 calls so far I've only been hung up on 2 times. 3 of them kindly took my info, and the other 5 were not interested.

Mid calling I had to stop and tell myself: If I call them expecting them to say no then they are going to say no. If I call with the confidence that someone WILL pay for my services then someone WILL buy me (my services... not me ;p )

I actually got a call back from one individual who had a missed call it went a little something like this:

Me: Hi this is XXX
Plumber: Yea I got a missed call from this number
Me: Oh, Hey yes I'm a graphic designer and I wanted to talk to you about designing a website for your company
Plumber: .... how much?
Me: (holding in excitement) I charge just XXX. I work for myself so I can get away with super low prices for a good quality site...
Plumber: (with excitement(due to low price)) Oh ok..!)
Me: How about I send you over an EMAIL with some of my previous work and we can go from there...
Plumber: Yes... please.. here's my email...

So I sent him over some stuff. I'm trying not to get TOO excited and just keep pushing forward. I'm going to resume calling at 1PM and keep going until I reach 100. It feels good to actually be doing it rather than reading about others who do it... I owe a thanks to John D for posting this Newbies Read this!

In regards to my script.. how is it? Too short? not enough Info?

Thanks guys

Kudos for you on taking action. I have no dog in this fight, I have never cold called.

But I will say on the call back: Get the value of your work and how it translates into more dollars for them across first before just blurting out your costs, IMO. Cool he wanted more info.

Since you are out there doing it, I am sure some experienced Warrior's will be along shortly to critique what you got going on.

Heed their advice, keep plugin' away.

Excellent. And Excellent making that distinction about the first line! That only comes from banging it out on the phone and really applying yourself to recognizing things. Amazing how a change like that can increase responses.

I use to go for an hour and have low production and then catch myself and it was usually because I reverted back to saying "Can I speak to Bob please"...Instead of saying "Hey Bob?"...

And just assuming it was him... or "Bob around"?

Then when I would change it, my responses would immediately increase noticeably.

    Good for you Kumaris!

Ps. On the plumber, I would say " Did you have a minute to talk? Or is there a better time to talk to about it when I can scheduile a call with you about it? Or just pitch him, or set an appointment. Chances are he rarely checks his email as a plumber on call... Good going, now strike when the iron is hot. Dont let it cool off!

      Question:

I kind of changed up my script to ending with.. " I'd like to send over a few website samples for you to check out..." and leaving it at that. It's worked 2/2 times and I am sending them over an EMAIL of sample sites. I'm not sure how effective this is. Thoughts?

Oh you sexy devil you. I can see the disco ball descending now.

Don't send over samples. Just another excuse for the prospect to get off the phone with you and never call back.

If you're going to show them samples, send them while they're on the line with you and you can get live feedback.

    Check this post out.

Very inspirational. I am really introverted and don't have many clients because I hate cold calling people. I haven't had much success with emails or postcards, so I think I might use your basic script and try to make some calls, although there is no way I would be able to make 100 calls in a day like you are trying to do. Congrats and good luck!

Great to hear about your success. I think if you can under cut these guys that charge 2000 to 5000 for a website you should do pretty good.

Oh and BTW.. One of the women that I actually cold called and booked web design for actually first hired another company first that charged her $3500 and didnt deliver anything since this Jan 2012. I asked her how she found them. She said they cold called her. That is very encouraging.

Just wondering what your "really low price" was?
