May I offer my copywriting skills in order to make the self-promotion of your WSO a little less obvious?

You would think it would be better disguised by at least sharing what type of direct mail campaign, or at least a half-hearted *blue print* - Maybe how much it cost, etc.

Instead, its great numbers, easy success, and a win!

If I were selling something, wouldn't you think I would plug that somewhere? I don't have a product to offer.

But seriously, I'm curious about what has worked well for other offline marketers.

That's a huge jump! How did you go about converting him into a paying client?

You said you grossed 7K, but what did you net? I could gross 100k but if I only net 1k that isn't very good, LOL!

    Congrats though...

My biggest win... hmmm, I would say one of my first clients, small $600 website, turned into a few thousand a month for SEO, maintenance and other things. Still have him right now, and watching him grow from a nobody to someone that is actually gaining market share, INTERNATIONALLY, is a great feeling.

The huge jump? He was trying to be "dominant" and test me, I stood my ground, he changed his tune, pays me more per keyword than any client, and I was actually trying to get him to say no (i think) when I quoted him, and he said "where do I mail the check" .. amazing how that works?

Once sold an almost 200k inventory of distressed liquidation merchandise overseas via email alone from a kitchen table in one sale... Brokering manufacturers excess (Thats "offline" at its finest), as well as closing numerous 30k overseas sales and 20k ones the same way...

Also once sold an offline web design company for hundreds of thousands of dollars, that my friend and I built from scratch.

Those are the two biggest single tickets to date.

Lots of little small ones that add up though.

Wow, just solid, straight confidence. What do you think he was looking for? To see if you would back off the quote or altogether?

Hah, that's a good point -- fortunately my costs were roughly 3k, but the real value came in from the relationships that were developed afterwards. The reason I don't bring up exactly what I was doing is because I didn't want to give the impression that I was trying to promote a WSO (even though a combination of several WSO's introduced me to this world), but I legitimately curious about what works for you.

Wow, that has to be a great feeling. Working as a key person in growing someone's company to a successful venture with international reach... That's something to be proud of. Congrats on his and your combined successes!

I'm not sure if I've heard of selling excess inventory on these boards... did you happen to know someone in a particular manufacturing company with overstock to get rid of? And how does that work? Do you work out a pricing model with the manufacturer and then go out and find distributors who are interested in what they have? Is there a sort of pitch that you need to give or do you essentially have an info sheet that you email to potential buyers to review?

That sounds like a fascinating realm of sales. Could you share some of your experiences?

    @workman

    Its really a long story...
for the most part you cold call manufacturing companies and find out who has excess inventory that needs to be unloaded...some have hundreds of thousands of units that have already been written off as a loss but are still costing in valuable warehouse space. They need it shipped over seas so it doesnt drive down the prices in their local retail market. You can arrange brokering deals with these manufacturers where they take like 5 cents on the dollar just to get rid of it... then go sell it for 20 cents on the dollar at Alibaba.com and you make 15 cents per unit on 20 thousand units or whatever. You arrange shipping with the freight forwarders...all that stuff is self explanatory once you start talking to a freight forwarder... They explain what they need...

You can pretty much learn it all step by step by taking action, from one juncture to the next.

It takes some digging to put buyers and sellers together, but one guy here worked on a deal for about 8 weeks this year, about less than an hour per day, infact I think just 2 or 3 hours per week, and made a $15k commission... others have made sales as well.

You have to be dedicated to learn the industry but overseas liquidations probably makes more overnight millionaires than any other opportunity in America... Just ask JF straw. The guy who brought "Blue Blockers" to America, made millions practically overnight on a similar deal... He is on this forum (Go figure). A legendary man in the liquidation world, and a Warrior.

I just figured it out by myself personally... read about overstock and overseas buyers somewhere and started putting two plus two together, one foot infront of the other...Got on the phone and located a handful of manufacturers with excess inventory problems... and set up some brokering deals... but didnt know where to sell the stuff... so the first time I tried it didnt work out...but then years later, after the internet came into full swing, I eventually found alibaba.com, the world bizarre, and started making sales from there.

Over 146 million dollars per DAY exchanges hands on Alibaba, and they arent ALL scams.... Gotta be something to figures like that, and there's gotta be somethin in it for YOU.

Thats what I figured anyway, and I was right.

"How do I make some of those transactions flow toward 'me' ?" Is the question.

Here's how, go find a manufacturer who is desperate to unload a million units of dead inventory and make a deal!

Again, long story. Its there for everyone, and its not rocket science, but not everyone has the fortitude for it. It takes some digging at first and willingness to stick your feet in the water and talk to manufacturers... Trust me , many NEED the service desperately. Brokering off their excess inventory.

You negotiate a deal, sell it, the buyer writes the check to the seller (usually "wires" actually) , and you collect your cut from the seller afterward.

A little hill, but no biggie if you are a climber.

    Hope this helps.

Ps. I generally negotiate with suppliers on the phone the first time, then email only afterward..., but buyers are usually 100% sold via email from start to finish, and they prefer it due to language barriers...
