I Want To Promote My Swedish Tutoring Service

Hi there,

I am a freelance writer, but lately I have been considering teaching Swedish to people where I live (London, UK) in exchange for a bit of cash.

What would be some good strategies to use as a way of finding students?

While this is the offline marketing section, you are of course allowed to post any excellent online marketing strategy that you may have.

I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks,

Victoralexon

Why not start off at the Swedish Embassy in London? Most embassies have a cultural attache whose responsibilities include furthering educational facilities between the two countries involved.

They might have a newsletter where you could advertise or might have some other suggestions as they have good contacts with colleges and universities, etc.

The demand to learn Swedish in England is almost, but not quite, zero.

Obviously some people must learn Swedish but I have never in my life heard anyone say they wish to learn it.

      Phone someone like this

      Language School - SGI

and ask them how many students of Swedish they have. They take Freelancers and maybe could send some your way if they do have enquiries.

I think if you are Swedish yourself then you may know German. This has exponentially more demand in the UK.

Or you could build the business up by conjoining with a Swedish bar hop expedition following language training completion.

The stereotype is that Swedish girls are hot, right?

So teach these local knuckleheads how to communicate with the Swede girls...and then take them there to meet some. I'm sure the girls will think it's cute.

I'll bet you could sign up several hundred Brit guys very quickly, if you used the right images.

    This really isn't hard...

    That took me 5 minutes.

Rag on this idea all you want...but it could work. Which is more than I can say for offering plain vanilla Swedish tutoring. Your students would be highly motivated. And you'd command a much higher price. You asked.

Swedish education for EU citizen are free, so I think you will have a niche market teaching those who want to go to Sweden for their education, but I feel the market isn't really big.

Having lived in Sweden for many years, there is some demand, but you need to think outside the box. I would consider these the top targets (obviously all based in Sweden)...
    1. Foreign Embassy staff
    2. Expat workers with mutlinationals
    3. Foreign students (mainly Masters and PHD programmes) at Swedish unis.

I would start researching demand by initiating contact with the above institutions.

The idea is to start teaching students before they relocate to Sweden, so they can start learning the lingo early.

Maybe you can offer simple phrase book accompanied by live skype chats?

    Good luck
