Validate my cold calling script

Last week I decided to give cold calling ago however I decided to use another script which seems to partially work

Out of about 15 calls I made, 3 people gave me their email address to send a report to.

One replied back the next day asking how much I charge and how long the contract will be. Below is the script, I just want someone who has experience in cold calling to put me right if am going the right way before i start cold calling full time.

"Hello, my name is John Doe from John Doe Media, am a local internet marketer and am sending out a free report on how businesses like yours could get more customers online.

If you are interested I would like the opportunity to analyze your website and send you a report on how I can get your more customers"

I really like the idea of calling them and giving them something helpful to them that costs you little to provide for free. What will really validate it is if it converts any prospects into paying clients.

Are you using software to produce the reports? What do you actually send out to them?

What I found is the 3 people were happy and said oh send me the report to my personal email and when they get home they will have a look.

I sent them a letter about how they missing out on sales, then a pdf of keywords associating to their businesses, how many people searches for it, and a copy of their competitors on page one.

Just three page pdf, and got a prospect asking how much it will cost him and for how long, just want to be sure if the script is good enough.

If the script is getting you the results you want, it's good enough. Why would you change something that is working.

If the numbers you are giving are correct, you are converting 1/3 of the people you speak with into prospects. But they are prospects who are ready and willing to listen to what you have to say and that's a critical distinction.

The key for you is to convert the prospects into clients. So as long as you're prepared to show them how they can improve upon the results of the report you sent them, you're doing great!

Edit: Bad math on my part but the numbers are still quite impressive.

I just sent someone a PM about this. Try to get away from the script as much as possible. I like to start off by asking "Do you guys have a website? Oh? How's that working out for ya? Is it getting you lots of customers?"

Most of the time it isn't, or they don't know.

When that happens, you're free to verbally molest them with all the stuff you can do. Just make sure you constantly feed them tidbits of how it will benefit them. Ask them questions that they have to think about. Get them involved. Make them reach a conclusion that helps you make the sale.

For example, I did some on-the-fly keyword research on a cold-call last week. I told the guy "8,000 people a month are searching for what you're selling, Jim. If 20% of those people happen upon your site, how many do you think might buy?"

I waited for him to answer.

It's late, and I'm tired. Hopefully you can benefit from my mish-mash of advice.

I've started a campaign with a local marketing company because on the phone they were:
    Friendly
Genuinely interested in helping us (it was all about what we get, not what they provide)
    Persistent, but not annoying

In my opinion, your script seems fine - I'd say yes to the report, and would definitely sign up if you could convince me that my business will gain more customers/sales etc.

    3/15 = 1 in 5.

That's 20%, and is OK. You could try asking if they would like a free report that helps them identify or solve a specific problem. This would qualify your suspects a bit.
