I am having a few issues with a Google Places page, and would appreciate some assistance. However, because it involves a specific client, I do not want to post the details here in a public forum. If someone is willing to help and can PM me that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Maybe I will ask it a different way then. I am trying to get "Top Seven" for a particular keyword. My city+Realtor, the 3rd listing has only property management as a category and is not very optimized at all. My categories include Real Estate Agent, Real Estate Consultant, and I added Realtor. Did making up a category called Realtor hurt the ranking of the Places page? Otherwise, I don't know what it could be. The Places page is 100% complete. Please advise. Thanks.

it takes some time to google places pick up your new updates. Any reviews? get reviews from clients - 5 or more reviews will help alot. I don't think category will hurt ranking.

make sure description have some keywords in it. etc.

What do you mean it's not showing up anywhere?
Has it disappeared from the maps?
      • If it has, you need to poke the listing. Meaning, click edit, do nothing and then click submit. If you listing doesn't re-appear after 2-3 days, you need to contact Google.
      • If you mean it's not showing for your keywords, that's different. Every places page has a url. Give that link to customers. Along with some third party review sites.

    Hello!

You should wait and be patient. It takes time. Write a good and effective description for it containing keywords. I think your categorization has nothing to do with it. Just be sure it is accurate and effective. Your updates will be picked by google soon enough.

    Best of Luck!

    • Not sure about some advice I read here. Yes categories are important and no keywords in the description don't help ranking and if you keyword stuff there can get you deranked.

The most important thing in the algo right now is the on-site SEO and local hooks. That's why you this happens "My city+Realtor, the 3rd listing has only property management as a category and is not very optimized at all." Their site is likely well optimized and or they have the right backlinks.

What do you mean "places page is not showing up"? Can you find it with a maps phone search? Has it been up for more than a week? If so is it suspended or pending in the dashboard.

How can you write a review? You should not be writing reviews for your client, you can get all their reviews deleted.

Nothing states suspended or pending in the dashboard. I just did a maps phone search and it did come up. Where is the url for that places page? because I just tried to copy that, and just a map came up. Thanks for the info though. If I can grab the URL somehow I can get others to submit reviews. Catalyst Emarketing, what would you recommend for optimization, videos? Citations?

It can be tough to find the url / link. the easiest way is to search for the business and click on the google places red dot (in the search engine results) to open the google places listing. then click on "link".

here is a screen shot to help you: http://screensnapr.com/e/KMW7gW.jpg

here is a video example: how to find google place url - Joe-a-Jing's library

to get it to the top, it could take 2 weeks, could take 6+. you need to have more reviews, videos, images, optimization and citations than your competitors for example.

have you claimed the superpages, yp.com, manta.com, yahoo, bing, citations yet? (and make sure the biz name, phone #, url, etc all match?)

    Hey kcom,

    A few things here:

    1) Website optimization - the overall optimization of the website should be generally good, this includes structure, content, interlinking between the pages, meta properties, external links, etc., etc.

    2) "Linking" the website and Google Places listing - this can be done in many ways:

    - get a Google map of the address on your website (at least on one page)
    - get the business name + city in the title tag of the landing page (at least)
    - get the address and phone number on the landing page (at least) and mark them up with schema.org or hCard (or both)

    3) Google Places - in fact, the most important purely Google Places thing is citations. Quality is more important than quantity in my opinion, so getting listings on high-quality websites, claiming them, and filling them in completely is ultimate for the success of this endeavour.

    I hope that helps!
