Hey Warriors!

I'm currently cold-calling small businesses in hopes of getting some offline leads. Could you supply some feedback on the script below? THANKS! :]

Cold Calling Script - WebAmbition
21/07/2012

Hi there, may I please speak to _____________?

--

Hi! My name is Jon and I'm a web designer. I was actually taking a look at your business website earlier and I noticed that it is a bit out of date.

I've just finished creating a mock up of what you're new one could look like, and I've got a working example right in front of me now.

I was wondering if you would like to take a no-strings-attached look at what I've got to offer?

IF YES:

Great! Is there a time this week when I can meet you and show you some free prototypes?

----> Confirm time & date.

----> Confirm location & business address.

  • Give him website URL and let him know that you will call closer to the date to confirm the meet up.

IF NO:

Alright, thank you for your time!

This isn't feedback on your script, but I'm curious as to whether you are creating these in advance? I would think it would be wise to create them before going to the appointment...that you've already confirmed. Anything else is kind of a time waster...

Sorry - I should have clarified! My bad.

I do not actually create these in advance. The protocols I claim to have for what their website "could look like" are simply live previews from templates I will eventually purchase if I get the particular sale.

      Hope that makes sense!

This will work fine for those business owners/managers who already feel that their site is out of date.

    And that's fine. Good qualifying.

So you're not going to send a blind demo link over...that's good...and the idea is to meet with already-interested people. No issues here.

for the sake of simplicity and getting started I wont add much , I only ask that you try adding this one line to try and evoke some emotion/realization that their site is no good.

Hi! My name is Jon and I'm a web designer. I was actually taking a look at your business website earlier and I noticed that it is a bit out of date.

Are you absolutely thrilled by the way it looks or have you thought about updating it to something more modern that projects your business in the best light possible?

"Im thrilled" or "screw you"-go to next one OR
YES, "i have thought about it"then...

I've just finished creating a mock up of what you're new one could look like, and I've got a working example right in front of me now.

NOtice I dont ask "are you satisfied". Its too easy to answer "yeah im satisfied" even though they are not because they dont want the hassle.

But its very hard to say you are thrilled when you are not, so in effect you shift the way their brain is working and now many on the fence will think "hey why not, it could be better and this guy is giving me a no strings look" vs "I dont want to fool with this now and get a sales pitch"

Jon, Are you sending them the website URL before the appointment? Because it says in your OP, "Give them the website URL".

I had a guy yesterday I had a very similar convo with. Email closed him.

Right? Sounds like good luck to me. Especially with a script that says "Hey, want this? No? Okay, cya!"

Either way, cool beans. Do that every day.

Well, there's no point in trying to sell something to people that aren't interested in the first place.. its called qualifying. This script takes care of it.
The only time you bring your rebuttals out is when you've already got one or more buying signals from them.

You said, "Hi! My name is Jon and I'm a web designer. I was actually taking a look at your business website earlier and I noticed that it is a bit out of date."

        > the business owner doesn't care that you are web designer, change it to something like, "Hi! My name is Jon and I can get your business more customers. I looked at your website just before I called and have made a mock-up of 3 changes that will start you getting more customers right away. Would you like to see it?"

Great point Joe! I will have to also try that in my script.

Thanks to EVERYONE for the feedback!

& yes, I must have encountered a bit of beginners luck. I recognize this, but that should not deterr anybody from going out and making appointments.

I appreciate all of the feedback and will take it into consideration when I begin cold calling again next week. Thanks :]
