website finding software?.....

As an offliner, I understand research and info gathering for potential clients is time-consuming but necessary. Fair enough, butI think I'm finally starting to realize just how much time I spend trying to determine if they even have a website or not.

i.e., found a newspaper ad for an accountant the other day, and started doing online research to see if he had a website. After weeding through about 4 directory listings with no mention of a site, I was pretty sure he was fair game to pitch a website to.

For no good reason, I looked in one more directory and there it was below his vitals 'visit website". He did have a website, but it was not referenced in the other directories, and God knows where he was in the SERPs

My question is this: does anyone know if software exists which definitively finds a website associated with a business?. A seemingly simple task yes, but it could be a real time saver for sure.

    I don't know of any software, but for me, it doesn't matter. It's easy to fall into the trap of offering websites to companies that don't have one, but remember that companies that have websites are many times better prospects:

    - Already had one made
    - Probably out of date
    - It's not getting customers
    - It's nowhere on the SERPs

    Even companies that have kickass websites can be good prospects if their websites aren't grabbing customers like they should be. It's the reason I just pick up the phone and dial.

      You're absolutely right, Mike. I do IM part-time, but the SEO stuff I've done has ALL been for businesses which already had a website, but were victims of one or more of the problems you cited.

      The main benefit of the software would be just to establish if that business had ANY website, (good, bad, or indifferent) which you then could analyze for weaknesses.

      I need to definitely test the waters with cold-calling in the future.

    I think the most accurate at the moment would probably be google places cause it links up those tiny connections that are linked to in the murky corners of the net. A decent scraper should be useful for you.

    I know one software which is currently selling on clickbank, scape from google's API, with your such term. For instant, the client's business name/or address/phone number, then it give the result of if there is a website and mobile version website associate to it or not.

    Wonder if thats sth you are looking for?

    Maybe just doing an online search for their business name?
    By searching for their name online, their website should be one of the first results you'll see if they have one.

      Also try googling their business tel number in quotes, usually get some results that way

        That's a good tip, thanks. Trying that on one of my client's sites, I realized that while there are two large phone numbers for the business, they are only in the header graphics It was no where else on the site in text, so the actual website itself wasn't being returned for the phone number. (Whoops), Adding that now....
