Experiment: How Much Can I Make from 800 VoiceMail Drops?

Tomorrow at 6:30AM, I am waking up and clicking "Start" on my Open VBX panel. I will be sending "Hi this is Max, I have a question about your website, give me a call back at xxx xxx xxx Thanks" to 800 phone numbers (straight to voicemail) of businesses in the home remodeling niche.

When someone calls back , I will ask them if they would be open minded to redesigning their site in order to stop leaving money on the table. Qualify them in or qualify them out within 15 seconds....then wait for the next call.

I'm preparing to be on the phone handling about 50 calls throughout the early part of the day.

    I've been doing a lot of voice broadcasting to contractors for different services I provide and it's been going extremely well. I'm doing over 10,000 at a time though so I don't know how well a sample of 800 will do. Good luck and keep us posted!

      I actually tried a 500 sample earlier this morning...got 22 callbacks. However, I set up the inbound like incorrectly and each caller was hung up on after hearing the message....

      Voicemail drops and voice broadcasting are completely different. Voicemail drops hang up on your when you actually answer. I know a lot of people that have had success with voice broadcasting but there are a lot of regulations being put in place that has steered me away from it.

        Right, and there's services that let you leave voicemails without the phone ringing too. I looked into it recently but didn't consider it because if the party doesn't have a network provided voicemail it will still make their phone's ring.

        I'm not worried myself about voice broadcasting and I do some pretty greyhat stuff but I totally understand someone not wanting to get into it.

      Pardon me for asking... but how do I do this? In my locality

      I have an asterisk server who can do just that (with 10 concurrent phone lines), but the problem is that the answering machine detection is kinda iffy(75% at best), I had to let go of all my personnel so if I do this during daytime business hours,it's for sure my drop call % is gonna go through the roof.

      I taught about doing it during the night but what if some dodo use his personnel cell phone as his business phone:confused:

    Max, my experience with home remodelers is they are slow to respond,
    have plenty of work on.

    Had 2 full time telemarketers 1 part time list builder calling them.

    I abandoned it because it lost me money.

      I'm really surprised to hear that was your experience because marketing to contractors has been my "full time" work for years. I didn't do a lot of cold calling to them (mostly direct mail) but the response has always been great in general.

      From the way I understood it, its done with the message.
      He is saying that only people that are open to getting a new website design done should call him back. His stats show a 3% call back. Please correct me if I am wrong.

      I would love for this thread to blow up. I want to do something similar. I would love all the information I can get on this. I want to do a voicemail drop to 10,000 or so but only want 100 call backs.

      Does anyone know if the WSO on the VBX software is still around?

    I use mark helton's voice prospector and it's more expensive up front to buy but the campaigns are half as much to run as the openvbx dialer. I pay around $10 each thousand calls.

    So far the total in the past 48 hours the total is 1000 numbers input into the program and 33 callbacks. I've made some pretty dumb mistakes, like launching both campaigns at 6:30AM....what was I thinking? Couldn't tell you... Another mistake was asking people to call my cell in the voicemail...but having the caller ID show another number. 11 people called the number that went to the automated recording and only 4 called my cell.

    I spoke to a guy this morning, kitchen cabinet contractor. He returned my "call" and wanted a website designed for $750. I could have taken the job but he sounded like a nightmare of a client..very demanding and economy hating. Tip: When a client blames Obama or the economy on the hard times of their business....it's usually client who's to blame.

    Also got a voicemail saying "Hi this Glen, can you give me a call today at 4:30-5? Thanks"

    So that should be interesting.

    Overall....for $20 of work and about 1 hour of time...not sure what else can get 33 business owners to call you.

      Big ole' goose egg on closing so far. Genuinely interested, I'd say 2 from the 11 that made contact today. The first 22 were COMPLETELY WASTED. Like I said, I screwed it up big time by not configuring the flows properly to handle the inbound calls. My plan was to have those returning my call dial my cell phone number so that I could speak to them...but instead the vast majority just used the caller ID on their phone and clicked "call".

      I'm still going through the learning curve.

      Lessons learned:
      • Never call before 8AM or after 8PM
      • The first contact should be friendly, vague, and quick.
      • For best results, don't use any automated recordings. Receive 100% of the call backs yourself
      • Remove the numbers that called back from the list, and try the drop again in 2 weeks.

        When you say never call after or before certain times, I imagine that would depend on who you were calling, right? I mean if you are calling contractors at 630 am that could wake them up cuz it rings to their cell or home, whereas calling a dentist at 630am would just go to VM.

          ls Summer for a week we used Call fire got a few sells , for the price it was faily easy to do and simply . To be honest Not sure why we stopped as it was a small test and worked but moved on to "bigger" things I guess

          Just purchased the mentioned WSO with the auto dialer as it seems to reduce the cost about 40%.

          The issue with call fire (not really a big issues as you still can make a profit) as they charge per minute 0.035 the WSO software does .02 with billing in 6 second increments, looking at a 45 second call 9 which is about the length of our messages we have used would cost around .016 per call

          Honestly, the WSO would pay for it self if this was a route anyone would be doing in about 10k in calls.

          Going to run a test campaign over next few weeks on a few services we offer.

    About best times to call...don't call when people are sleeping or relaxing. Normally at 8AM everyone in business is awake but not working yet. Besides, it looks a little strange when the caller ID shows that the voicemail was left at 6AM...

      Hey,

      Not sure if you know this or not, but Twilio allows you to verify your phone number so that all outgoing calls for that particular number come from your cell phone number.

      For example, we modified Chad's other plugin so that all outgoing phone calls from our clients account has their office line instead of our generic twilio number.

      You could probably ping twilio support to find out how to do this or look for someone who works with openvbx.

    Sometimes a pre-recorded message for them to call and leave one works well at screening the ugly ones out, as well as the non-qualified prospects, too.

    I'm really fascinated by this type of marketing because you can test so many things in a short period of time. Oh and the prospect who wanted a call back at 4:30...wanted a $200-300 website and was convinced that a website can never get more than 2 leads.
    I turned him away.

    So all in all...500 numbers yielded 15 call backs today. Of those 15, I only spoke to 3. Of those 3, one said no politely, and the other 2 wanted websites, but did not fit my criteria. I'm VERY picky about my clientele. I only take a client on if I can gross $15,000+ annually from the account.

    If you're just starting out and need some quick cash to expand your marketing efforts, start doing voicemail drops

      Why not try a VB Press-1 campaign to VMs and Live Answers, and either answer it live or transfer to a VM?

            Message was just about a question pertaining to their site.

            100 calls, 39 call backs. only a handful of those actually made it through to me. $1000 in sales if I chose to accept them, which I didn't.

            If I would have answered every one of those calls...3-6 sales would have been likely.

    Bob Ross have you got any reports on your VB experience? I want to buy one.

    I have had a couple of successful VB campaigns... but not on so many different (Diverse types of) projects that I would call myself a seasoned pro necessarily. Would love to hear the experience of one who has a ton of experience with it.

    Was disappointed when I ran out of posts to read on this thread.

      I've been using it like crazy lately, mostly for b2c stuff where I leave a very short and non-threatening message, which allows me to find easy 'buyers' then I'm cold calling the interested ones a week later so they don't see the connection between the two.

    Here's some proof...because if one thing pisses me off it's unverified claims.



    So far the total is about 40 call backs. The image only shows call backs to the Open VBX number.

    In other news, I'm KILLING IT ON CRAIGSLIST. I have guys doing 30 ads a day in one city, in just 2 days, I've gotten 2 deals worth $25k in annual revenue. I hired a copywriter to create the ad and it seems like it's doing incredibly well.

    Used VB for a while before hearing it is now illegal B2C.

    Best leads I have ever worked for insurance.

    They either flat out sucked or they rocked big time.

    You are basically getting people to voluntarily leave their info, so it is similar to a DM campaign.

    I used twice qualified leads; people would listen to a Pre recorded message; those wanting more would press 1 and be directed to a VM machine reiterating the same selling points.

    At that point, if they were truly interested, they would leave their name and phone number.

    I could close 25% to 35% of press 1 leads, compared to 20% to 25% of DM leads. Plus the cost between both was a huge savings. And the leads were more fresh, and a tad bit easier to qualify hard over the phone.

    Hey guys,

    I've actually done a lot of this and I'm going to give it another try within a certain vertical type this week.

    Couple of tips though:

    1. The more "vague" you are, the more response you get. Of course, it's less quality, so it's up to you to flip and close. On the flipside, if you are direct with your offer, you'll get less calls, but they'll be quality leads.

    2. Night time drops are fantastic. I don't do voice drops during the day, because most businesses pick up the phone, so set your campaign to start at 2am.

    I do not know a lot about sending them, but I have been the recipient of a few. I can tell you that, I much prefer this to cold calls for the fact that I can choose to listen or not.

    Its better than a spam mail because a spam mail is... well.... spam... and nothing catches my attention, BUT the fact that I have another voicemail message left on my off hours excites me, so I am ready to listen to it.

    Thats when you have to catch my interest quickly. Sounding funny and unorthodox helps a lot to keep me listening! hahahah!!!

    This is just off the top of my head, I am sure someone else can do better.

    On a side note, going through the different laws about auto dialers, am I correct that this is saying it illegal for me to call and say something along the lines of: "Hey my name is ___. I just had a cool idea, I saw you have low ratings on ___.com and I think I can help... give me a call at (__)__-5535."

    I've done this using CallFire before. I made a HUGE mistake. I sent out the broadcast at 3:00 AM in the morning!!! I clicked the wrong button. Needless to say, I got some pretty heated calls in the morning.

    There's nothing new that needs to be said though...continuing talking about this is just mental masturbation.

    This method works. The software is out there. The phone numbers are out there.

    Pick a list of businesses. Throw them in the software. Set up your flows properly and A/B test your messages.

    You'll probably screw up the first 3-5 drops. That's how you become a great marketer.

    After your first few times you have an idea of what direction to go in, what tone to use, and what offers to use.

    Test everything. Then test some more.
