Wedding Prospects: Where To Find Them?

I'm looking to start targeting the niche of newly weds for a couple of days in order to hopefully grab some quick and easy sales. The work I'd have to do would be easy, so easy that I wouldn't even have to outsource it. I think if I focused on it for a few days, it could be profitable.

My obstacle is finding these people of whom are about to get married. Does anybody know how I could do this? It's easy to target plumbers or something like that, but this seems a lot tougher. I'm going to start posting in classifieds but other than that I am having trouble coming up with ways to effectively get in touch with people planning their weddings.

Any suggestions would be APPRECIATED!

    What are selling to newlyweds?

The wedding market is huge. SEO and cutting through the clutter in that market is a tough nut. We do wedding videos and most of our work is by word of mouth. Very few from the ads, google ads, brochures and commercials we market with. Word of mouth is still the best for us.

Also we pick up a lot of people at local bridal convention events. They have several at the start of wedding season and lot of new brides to be will come out and shop for everything from dresses to newlywed vacations to videographers and photographers. Explore your local wedding market. Our season is done, we don't get much wedding work after August so we'll be spending the next few months gearing up for next year.

Mailing lists are available. Minimum order is usually 5,000 names. Selects by wedding month are $10 more per 1000:

Cool. I was worried that it would be tricky / overly expensive to get mailing lists of this type. Thanks. I may actually make an attempt at a snail-mail campaign here and I'll be sure to post my results afterwards. Thanks, Mr. Subtle!

To the others - the idea for a JV is somewhat intriguing. I'm 16, so I'm worried about how well it would go over if I approached say a gown shop for example. Maybe I'll try and pay them to allow me to post something @ their business and near their registers, etc. Could somebody help me in terms of the best way to approach these businesses for this type of JV?

      Thanks everyone.

Do a JV with a local wedding planner or wedding photographer.

you could also do a jv with wedding gown shops, tux rental shops.

What about online forums that have a bunch of women on there all giving each other wedding tips and such.

You could post a banner on that kind of site.

    Or limi services, catering services.

Do a search on Google for planning a wedding and see if you can find someone's list not a company but someone actually planning their own wedding.

This will give you an idea of what they all need for their wedding and that should give you an idea of companies you can target.

    Hi Jon,
Also, remember that Facebook allows you to target engaged people of any gender or age.

First, get your terminology correct. A "newlywed" means they've recently gotten married. You're seeking engaged people or brides-to-be.

JV with others depends on where in the bride/groom's buying cycle your product/service is typically purchased. Flowers, for example, are usually further down the line then the dress. So if you were a florist, you'd want to hook up with a gown shop, but not so much the other way around. And then, it also depends on your reputation. Most wedding vendors won't blindly refer another business untried because if you do a poor job, it'll reflect on them for having recommended you.

You can try Facebook ads, but in light of the recent doubts raised about them, I wouldn't be so fast to spend any money there.

Check theknot.com. Also look on craigslist, many people offering wedding services post in the community section. Many cities also have free wedding services publications. To find out about free publications in your area just call a wedding planner or bridal shop. They should be able to give you some good information.
