What hardware and telephone services are best to use for cold calling?

It might be helpful to those of us who haven't began cold calling but have a desire to if there was a discussion regarding the physical, and software, equipment needs to do so. I will be operating as a one person shop and currently have a cel phone only. The house line from the local telephone company was deemed unnecessary a few years ago and the service terminated.

What is recommended? VOIP perhaps, is it reliable? Ma Bell? Long distance can become expensive. I hear others on this forum speak of auto dialers but I'm not sure how that works.

Would some of you who cold call please discuss. Thanks.

Do not use a cell phone. We have 2 people calling all day. We have one landline with unlimited long distance (which is standard in most phone companies), and one Magic Jack plus that runs off our modem.

Your best bet is to get either one of those since it's just you.

Voip tends to cut out, as does Magic Jack sometimes, but a simple reboot fixes the Magic Jack.

You do not need an autodialer for a 1 person room. Your fingers can dial faster and if you are new to calling, it will do nothing but slow you down trying to figure out how to get your numbers in and what you need.

Basically, you need a list, and a phone. Your list can be paper or in excel.

Yes, all you need is a list and a phone.
I disagree with the cell phone thing. All I use is a cell phone.

          Agreed.

I use whatever is in front of me Landline, mobile, VOIP, whatever. I know from my offshore dudes that for calling international Skype is still the de facto standard and I assume that's for a good reason.

Lol I actually was thinking of making WSO and this is one of the topics I was going to cover. I myself use a cell phone. As long as you get perfect reception from wherever you are calling there is no problem with it. I like it too because it gives me the option of telemarketing anywhere I want, home, park, and poolside surrounded by beautiful women (need to make sure they're quite before you dial) lol. It gives me the freedom of not being tied down to a landline, and that's why I do this, for the freedom.

A handsfree set is a must! I have one that plugs into my cellphone and has a mic that comes up to my mouth. It also has a mute and volume button. Right now I have Tmobile, unlimited nationwide calling, and unlimited texts. I like having the text option available also, many of my current clients like the fact that they can text me a question and get a quick simple response, I like it too! Helps me stay connected without having to take the time out to make a call.

If you are really interested in improving your calls over time, I suggest using Skype and using a recorder to record the calls. Review your calls to see which ones netted a sale, which didn't. Keep track of the ones where the recipient gave a reason they didn't want your product/service. Write down the top 5-10 of these and determine what you will say to help move the call along the next time you get one of that nature...
