Do you give kickbacks?

Hi fellow offliners

Just asking, have you come across some clients/potential clients who expect a kickback from you if they give you a job? This is quite testing unless you have come into such a situation

This happens especially when its a long winding decision on a big system or solution you are offering to the client organization and there are many influencers along the way

What do you as an entrepreneur feel about this? Personally for me, this sucks and i am using that anger to diversify into offering my services as SAAS, even if this will mean small revenues and a dip in profit at the beginning.

I am not talking about lead generation fee but an actual twisting of hands by someone inside the clients organization, when you are already among the last bidders

I always offer kickbacks if someone sends me a referral...even if that person isn't expecting it. I believe it's the right thing to do and it will lead to many more referrals down the road. Plus, the person you actually sent the kickback to...will most likely come back to you for life whenever they are in the need of your help!

Thanks for the response, however i am referrring to- you being requested to part with something by someone from client company- i understand what you mean by finders fee, but thats not the reference here. Actually finders fee is almost always very important to keep new leads coming

I like the term finders fee. Kickbacks is such a loaded word.

I should have asked the question maybe in a more straightforward way, I mean, are you forced to part with some money before or after securing a job, not by a third party but by someone at clients company? I find this sickening!

I had it happen once. I said "I'll make you a deal. You don't tell anyone here that you suggested a bribe, and I won't tell anyone here that you suggested a bribe. Fair enough?"

The deal went through. I have no idea what went on behind the scenes.

I once fired an employee because they admitted to asking for a bribe.
        It's a form of embezzlement.

          This would be my reaction.
