Penguin vs EMD ?

The reason they are still #1 is probably because if you look at 'Belleville Defense Attorney' stats in Google's Key Word Tool you will see a - next to all the monthly search traffic stats.... As this is phase 1 of the Google EMD update (soon to become a quarterly or even monthly occurrence) Google has nothing better to place above the result as IT believes really no-one is that interested in, or searching for 'Belleville Defense Attorney'.

Next time round they might not be so lucky.

If you create a site now with all the correct title and H tags with Geo references and other key ingredient and half a dozen good pages of content you would wipe them straight off #1 as soon as the EMD update revisits if not before.

That said if they were genuine (and not just a Joomla login page) with a good linking profile and reasonable bounce rate they would keep their spot.

I have found it relatively easy to rank and stick following these 10 steps:-

1). Use WordPress (because it just works so much easier)
2). A minimum of 6 well written relevant pages
3). All tags correct with the keywords in the H1 and Title (it does make the difference) and unique titles and descriptions
4). Install Yoast SEO plugin and USE IT! no need to pay for seopressor yoast is just as good.
5). Home - Privacy - Disclaimer - Contact - + Content Pages
6). Google + & Google Web-masters account & Google Analytics all set-up for the site
7). Sitemap, sitemap, sitemap! Video as well if you have some.
8). KML & GEO Site-Map (for local sites, knocks the competition out easier, go to geositemapgenerator for an free easy one)
9). Create Business pages/accounts with the top 4 Social Media sites Twitter, Facebook, Linked-in, YouTube and then add Google+ for your Places listing etc - then go to Fiverr and get a promo video done for $5 and go to flixtime to create another one of your own. Add these to YouTube with your site URL at the start of the text and your address as displayed in G+ Places. Add your profiles to all the other social media accounts with the URL of your site and make a few friends and posts, just a couple to get things going
10). Now (before you get your G+ PIN to activate it) go to as many GOOD on-line directories and register the same details with as much good info as possible.

Using these basic 10 steps I have sites on within hours and ranking on page 1 within a week, generally Google takes about 4 to 6 weeks to fully trust you and after that your position will settle then you can work out if you need to start more linking and within 6 - 8 weeks we generally get P1 and stay there, total cost $30 and about a day's time setting up and completing all the details

We do a little more optimization on the images and tags however nothing crazy or wild! Don't believe the hype
