Taking bank and credit card payments in the UK

Can anyone shed some light on the best way to do this? Do you have a business account set up to take payments?

    This is what our company uses:

    1) Business Bank Account
    2) Merchant Account via Business Banking
    3) Through Worldpay we can take phone payments or direct online payments.
    4) Via Worldpay we can also take recurring payments

    When I first started in the business 4 years ago I used to take payments as follows:

    1) Set up Business Bank Account
    2) Take payments by cash or cheque to business name
    3) Direct Bank Transfers
    4) Standing Orders (for recurring payments
    5) All card payments taken via Paypal Business Account

    If you do not want to go down the route of having full merchant facilities you can simply accept card payments via Paypal.

    I highly recommend you set up a Business Bank Account from the outset.

    Any idea about collecting money (via card / cheque ), especially recurring when not owning a business overt there? trying to help out a friend.
