Storm weary? Be prepared next time......

My heart goes out to all who are suffering from the recent storm, as I'm sure most of your's do as well. I live in northeast Alabama and suffered similar circumstances a couple of years ago due to a series of killer tornadoes that came through my area. Most here were caught unprepared as tornadoes are very hard to predict. The most inconvenient loss in our case was the lack of electricity for almost a week. This might not sound too awful to some, but it pretty much shuts down everything: cold food storage, inability to get gas, bathing (makes you pretty miserable after a few days), water (if you are using a well), the list goes on. I was fortunate in that I had a generator on hand that could run a few essentials: water heater, refrigerator, a few lights, freezer. We had to drive an hour to get gasoline, but it was certainly worth it for the convenience it provided. Luckily, our pantry and freezer was stocked fairly well with food and we, our family, and friends did not suffer to the degree many others did.

I have an idea that I would like to share here as I'm not sure how one would proceed with it. It involves disaster preparedness. While I would never, ever attempt to profit from current misfortunes, I would certainly have no problem capitalizing on preparing people in harms way for future occurences. It is certainly rare for these storms to hit the heavily populated northeast, but is a given that the state of Florida, and the Gulf Coast in particular, will face them with regularity. So the prospects are many, but how can they be reached in the most effective way.

A big part of this idea involves disaster preparedness. It would be easy enough to create a simple, step by step, guide to share with everyone. The income producer involves a product that can range in price from $800 to well over $20,000. It is, of course, a generator, the biggest difference maker available.

I view this as an affiliate type opportunity. Find suppliers of generators, particulary the more expensive ones that run on natural gas and require installation. Run ads, geographically, on Facebook and other sources to promote these, or send postcards through the mail. Better yet, send the disaster preparedness report to a targeted list of addresses, and ask for the sale. Receive commissions on the sales.

This is such a simple concept. Where does one start to begin this process? I would welcome anyone who has run this type of campaign to share their thoughts on the best ways to proceed. Thanks for reading......
