Reach 10,000 new customers every month...is it worth it?

Everyone,

Could you help me with something... I'm trying decide if this is a good deal not for advertising locally. Here is a quick outline of the offer

1: I'll get a landing page for lead capture.

2: Flyers will go out to 10,000 people per month (there will be up to 25 none competing businesses per flyer) the flyer is a thick postcard type card stock. They are distributed through EDDM as well as being passed out at local hot spots.

3: They will help design and create the sales copy for both the flyer and landing page.

4: I have the option at anytime to sell discount vouchers through the landing page (kind of like Groupon)

5: Price is $300

What do you guys THINK? sounds worth it to me but I would like some feed back.

Thanks warriors!

What are you selling, how much does it currently cost you to get a new customer, and what's a new customer worth to you?

I think if you have the money to spare that just about any kind of marketing is worth testing, but don't think for a second that all of these 10k people are going to be ideal prospects for you.

Bob Ross who posts here has used this post card method a lot for local business. It sounds like for many of them it has worked well. But as always the offer you put on the card is what will make all the difference.

It depends on how targeted the audience is and what you are offering.
If you are a local shop or service provider and the flier is going out to local households then it may well be worth doing.
If you add a coupon or code for the potential customer to give you then this will help to give you some kind of tracking to see whether the campaign is working or not.

The golden rule is this: You will know within the first advert or flier whether it has worked or not. If you are not getting the results within the first promotion then definitely knock it on the head. Advertisers, will ALWAYS tell you that is takes time for it to work - this is completely untrue, if the campaign doesn't work first time then something is wrong and so don't waste time and money hoping it'll work in a few months.

It may be that your offer needs tweaking or your price or maybe your product/service just isn't what the local market wants.
    I hope this helps.

So - the research including MIT's assumption that it take 2 to 4 attempts to trigger a response from most consumers is untrue?

I'm with Steve and Aaron here: It depends.

What exactly is your business? What are you selling?

Beyond that, $300 sounded suspiciously low for design AND copy AND a landing page AND being on a flier - then I realized you'll be sharing that flier space with 25 other businesses... which means out of the fraction of the people who look at the flier, only a fraction of those might take you up on your offer.

Have you seen samples of what your ad would look like on this flier? Or of what their design and copy looks like in general?

As Steve asked, what's a new customer worth to you?

I'm looking to use it for my Insurance business and each customer is worth at least $250. I also have a buddy that wants to use it for his barber shop and I'm not sure what is profit per customer is from a $15 hair cut.

Both of our business can benefit from this type of "Spray and Pray" marketing because we both accept "mostly" any type of customer.

The price is what I thought was out of line... I couldn't even send 10,000 post cards out for that price. Plus they offer all of that other stuff.

The landing page alone is worth $300 a month if it gets 10,000 exposures per month.

They showed me some ads and what the flyers look like and they are nice. Well written with professional grade graphics.

The landing page is also nice but it is branded to their marketing company but it is still well done.

Well, if you can get your investment back with one or two customers it sounds like it's worth testing at least, but like Danielle mentioned - only a percentage of those 10k are likely to see your ad and a smaller percentage likely to be ideal prospects for you.

That's great they could show you what the ads and flyers look like, but more important is to know whether it brought those advertisers any business?? If they can't tell you directly, I'd be calling a few prior advertisers myself to find out if it was worth it for them or not.

Good luck, and if you do go ahead with this, let is know how you make out!

It's really depends on what you are selling and what kind of customers that you are targeting, quality > quantity and what's the demand of your product. I suggest you do a little research or survey in your area to know your customers need. Then you can focus on what to advertise.

Looks good but I suggest that you make thorough research with what you are targeting for. Remember Quality is better than Quantity, as long as it converts there'll be no problem at all.
