Personal trainer client

I just recently closed a personal trainer as a client and he's complaining that he's not receiving any leads from his websites. I took a look at his websites and they are over-complicated and very hard to navigate through. So we agreed to build a new site specifically for generating leads, collecting optins and targeting potential clients. The question is what route do I use to generate him leads, should I go with traditional SEO, PPC or something else? I did some research into local keywords and their weren't that many results. He mentioned that 2 new clients a month was sufficient enough for his business to grow.

What do you guys think would be the next best step?

I have a client who is a personal trainer and a masseur. He gained a LOT of clients by simply signing up for one of the voucher companies and offering a discount on a first visit. That was how I found him and he has gotten quite a few clients the same way.

I know it has not got a lot to do with the actual website you're talking about BUT you do need a good quality site so people who see ads for the vouchers will check the site out before deciding to buy.

Good luck. Pm me if you have any more questions.

I don't know about personal trainers but I'm guessing my dog training business is fairly similar?

The biggest stuff for us generating leads has been, in no particular order:
1- Organic web traffic. I don't know what keyword analysis tool you're using (nor am I great at keyword analysis) but the google keyword tool shows low traffic for the keywords I want to rank for i.e. Utah dog training, Utah dog trainer, Salt Lake City dog training, etc. Even though that is the case I'm still able to get plenty of traffic in order to create plenty of leads.

2- Referrals- We need to be better but we try to run referral programs with customers and places like veterinarians, groomers, etc. Customer referrals and referrals from Chiropractors, PT's, and other folks could be big.

3- PR. We've been successful at getting mentioned and written up a lot in local media.

Like I say, personal training and dog training are different markets but I'm betting there are enough similarities that our lead gen would be pretty similar.

I'd focus more on social media for personal training. Every client success story should be broadcast far and wide. Make customer results the star of the show, not fancy qualifications of a trainer. Take before/after pics and post them on your social sites as well as have the client post them on theirs. Have them "star" in your ads.

I'd also focus on women, they are more than likely to hire a trainer, guys are too damn proud. "Ladies, fit into your hot sexy dress for valentines!, come see us today!"

offer free trial/low cost group fitness classes. A good way for potentials to check out the place. And many will bring a friend with them.

Also, with future clients, set up lower expectations that lead gen takes some time and commitment on their part but you will lead them in the right direction. underpromise/overdeliver.

Tell him to make gift certificates of some value, lets say USD 50 and give them for free to local big employers to distribute them as gifts to their employees. Win win situation or both. But start small and test everything. then expand to other companies.

    Great suggestions!

Also, do you guys think doing local PPC for lead gen would be a good route? And in terms of social media, facebooks ads targeting local fitness demos?
