Keep going back to the well.

I read somewhere that you keep going back to the well until it's dry. Which I never really applied. So I decided to try it. I sent out an email in December just reminding my clients telling them happy holidays and about my services and telling them to get a jump on the new year by getting their ads/websites etc created/updated and right after the holidays 5 out of 50 clients responded with work for me as soon as the new year rolled over. Since then, I've sent out 1 email a week and I've been getting 1-2 small jobs per week.

I'm working about 80 hrs a week and I'm matching my day job income every week. Not a hard task as my day job barely pays above minimum wage. In 2 more months I will be out of the hole and then I really will be focused on building a solid foundation for my offline business.

    Good for you Pal !

That is a whole lot of time. I wish I had half the energy to make an online income over my 40 hour day job.

Thanks for the lil kick in the rear!

Trust me. I'm dog tired every day. Friday nights and Sunday mornings are my days off. But I look back on the last two years of being completely broke and it spurs me on. Not having food, or money for christmas presents or getting eviction notices will make you find the energy. Also, lots of coffee.

      Web design (wordpress templates)
Graphic design - logos, flyers, direct mail, biz cards, facebook graphics.
Video - TV commercials, web commercials, video marketing.

This week I am finishing up 1 tv commercial, 1 web video and starting on a website. I have another job l lined up for next week that includes a logo, youtube setup, twitter setup, website and tv commercial. The week after I have the same thing set up for another small business. I am positioning myself as the go to guy for the beginning local biz or the guys who want to redefine theier look to get a larger market share. Most of my clients have been in business before in some capacity so it makes it easier as they understand the value. It's the newbie who's starting on his first venture or the veteran who knows it all that I seem to have problems with.

As soon as I get out of the hole, I am going to start outsourcing as much as possible and start project managing.

  • It's great the you have a positive mindset and you're approaching outsourcing cautiously. Outsourcing can really help your business but you should only get into it when you know you can afford it and you have a good business plan in place. Good luck with your business and if you have any questions about outsourcing, please let me know. I'd be more than happy to help.

The other thing you want to do when you get your head above water is think about strategy. Right now, you're all over the place with the services you offer and the types of clients you'll take on.

At some point, you should sit down and develop a strategy for your business. Decide where in the marketplace you want to position your business, decide on the amount of recurring monthly revenue you need, come up with a system for lead gen, etc.

An example from the real world. I bought a bakery 16 years ago that sold bread, cookies, pie, etc. Products were all over the map, and none were very good. I narrowed the product lines, and focused on cakes because they have a high margin. In less than one year I made that bakery profitable.

You can't be all things to all people, because the money is in being a specialist. Decide either what brings you the most profit or that which you enjoy doing the best in your business - and focus on that. For me, I loved the cake business - so it was easy for me to devote long hours to it - and it was great because it was my highest profit item as well.

Great job on proving your work ethic. You'll go far putting that much effort into your business.

I've been giving that a lot of thought, recently read the EMyth and I see how I need to create systems for everything including my marketing. I also know that I mainly enjoy creating video and managing video campaigns. I really want to focus on Direct Mail (ala bob ross) and video marketing/lead generation via video. Everything that is not those things I will outsource if it comes through the door.

I have to say, you need a sig!

Through the Bob Ross Forum, we have communicated a few times and you also showed me a couple of videos that you made, top notch I must say or at least very, very close to it (I am just kiddin'). So, get yourself a sig, promote your videos, they are great!

If all that you say is true than props to you, truly. You have a great baseline for becoming successful.

Keep at it. Don't give up. Don't worry about what others say.

Absolutely, I use places scout and email these leads all the time, over and over and over and over. Is it spam? Hell yes but the b2b kind that is still in that coveted grey area. It's basic email marketing 101. I will often times just send the same message with a different subject. Also, I will use that "oops wrong link" email as well that I used to hate so much from WSO affiliates...
