Split testing & statistical significance

It's been 3 weeks since I have started as a stock broker. I honestly am off to a good start so I know I have at least some leeway with management.

I'll be frank, I somewhat have reservations about the sales strategy. We go all freestyle and I don't like it all that much. I tend to fumble a lot more in this case.I see people who have been here for a while and they freestyle but while they are good, they don't get consistent results (some weeks, it's 1 appointment, others its 6-7).

What I'm going to do is put together a quick script this weekend and start split testing over the coming months...

I read this post and it got me thinking:

Don’t Stop Using That “Bad” Telemarketing Script

How do I get the "luck" factor out of the equation?
For example,a friend just booked two appointments from two cold calls in a row.It was clearly luck. What if you get 2 sales or 5 appointments the same day or two days, but in fact it was luck and you are in fact following a worse script then before?

Does anyone use statistical significance in evaluating their scripts?

Worse comes to worse,I'm going to pick up a stats textbook from the library ,I wasn't bad at math but it would be nice to hear others' opinions.
