What is it going to cost on your end and do you need to charge sales tax in your state?

Are you providing design? What kind of paper stock and finishing?

100 cards isn't a lot. You should probably be selling 250 to 500 at minimum.

Charge them for a dollar per card so that's a hundred dollars for 100 business cards, see if it's worth it, if not make it $1.5 per card.

At this point, I'd just sell him whatever equipment you own for making business cards...

I wouldn't even spend time on such a minuscule project.

I would charge twice cost, or more. I can't order in quantities less than 500, but for 500 4/4 14pt uv coated I would charge $30. Layout and design, prepress and shipping are all extra.

It really is a small (read: miniscule) amount of money, but so long as you make your labor rate it's not a bad loss leader.

This. I'm updating a card for one of my clients right now. 1000 cards, uv coded 4/4 16pt with 1/8 rounded edges for $30 including shipping. I charged him $35 for the intitial design and $15 for the changes.

I have a friend who runs a niche business card buisness for a particular industry. He charges $35 for design and $40 for printing/shipping using the same specs as mine (usually no rounded edges though). It's his entry point to his sales funnel. He'll drop the design cost on biz cards if they buy flyers, posters, convention graphics as well and charge for the design of those. Then he upsells websites, tv commercials, radio spots and mobile websites. Of course he builds a list and attends conventions, he averages about $100 to $300 a day in profits on the other items in his funnel. He's been doing this for two years. Sometimes the little work leads to big work.

No. It's call being a wholesaler and getting wholesaler prices on printing. And 35 bucks for design is still a better pay rate than fiver for a 20 min layout job. It's a good side business for him that takes a couple of hours a day. I don't think you know what you are talking about.
