If you go back and revisit the entire post you are referring to, he has laid out ALL of the information you are asking for in detail.

I have tried it, I am still doing it actually. I currently run 2 separate cards in my area. I do it on the side as an addon for some of my existing customers.

If you promise to NEVER make another post in all caps again, I will answer your questions

Is anyone using it? Yes, there is an entire forum dedicated to this method

Does it work well? Almost everyone here has a Valpak franchise in their area or somewhere close. The principle here is the same, it works, it always will. Its Direct Mail at its finest

How much to charge? I currently charge between $399 and $699 depending on the size of the ad (this is assuming its going out to 10,000 households)

I also use the EDDM method from Bob Ross. It is a really good money maker. I charge between $399 and $799 per slot. I do this for my city as well as another one close. 2 full cards every quarter in 2 cities. I do it every quarter as to not saturate my area, (even though its all about saturation. lol)

I am also doing the BobRoss method on the side of my consulting business. We do 3 cards a month is 3 towns. I have my whole program outsourced, ie. 2 commission sales reps, an in house designer, fulfillment is handled by a part time student. Check out the thread that was referenced above and feel free to PM me or post in this thread if you have any other questions.

I really like your strategy .. I was wondering ... Did you buy a list of addresses?
Did you send the cards without an enveloppe? any stamps?

People are getting tired of annoying flyers, post cards..etc .

      Thanks

I have an in-house designer that handles most of the ad on my cards. However, I hired a freelancer on Craigslist that does a couple of spots a month when my primary designer is working on other projects.

An ad on CL looking to hire a freelance designer will fill your inbox to the brim with responses.

My sales reps are paid 50% of the net profit on each card. Multi market deals are paid on a sliding scale starting at 70/30 in favor of the rep that closes the deal. This is to prevent my reps from eating into each others potential earnings on out of market deals.

I use exclusivity as a tool to get the money up front. If the customer wants to be guaranteed an exclusive deal, they have to pay today. Otherwise we charge 50% when the deal closes and 50% upon delivery of a proof. If the customer has not settled their account by the time we go to print, we don't run their ad.

In my experience, high dollar per transaction businesses eat this thing up. HVAC, Remodelers, Dentists, Chiropractors, Small Car Dealerships etc. Small mom and pop type retailers and restaurants are the toughest targets in my markets. It's tough to sell them a 4x3 spot that goes to 10,000 homes when they can get a full page 8x10 in a coupon booklet that goes to 2-3 times as many homes for half the price. It makes for a tough value proposition.

    Here is an easy sell:

    8.5" x 11" card.

2 - half page Ads - one on each side. Sell for $499 each. This will be your anchor advertisers. Pizza Restaurants are good. Any new business wanting to market within their immediate area works too!

8 - 1/8 page Ads - 4 on each side. Sell for $199 each. These can be restaurants, bowling alleys, car washes, etc.

Mail out 4k using EDDM and hand distribute 500 in the area surrounding your anchor advertisers. Then distribute 500 via a live event the same afternoon. Give away free popsicles, hot dogs, etc - generate a buzz.

Total revenue created = $2,590 + any setup fees charged. [ we charge $50 setup ]

    Total cost = $550 printing + $640 postal + $200 giveaways + $200 labor = $1,590

    Net Profit = $1,000 for a few days work and only 10 clients . . .

It's affordable to the local business and you can make a decent living doing one card a week . . .

    Good Luck!

EDDM is great! I do marketing for carpet cleaning companies all over the U.S. and I've done many EDDM campaigns for them. Many times we've gotten 4 to 1 returns on the investment.

Here's a video and infographic I gave to my clients explaining EDDM. You'll see some examples too half way through the video.
