Which video editor do you use and why?

Curious which one might be best for me.

If you're asking here, you're fairly new to editing. No offense. Hands down, pick up a copy of Powerdirector. You can do a lot with it, easily. Don't waste your time with Movide Directior, iMovie, etc. They're woefully limited. Powerdirector will get you laughed at by guys who are serious, but you can actually do real stuff with it. Learn it (a few hours of playing around with clips and you'll have the basics down), and then move on if what you're doing dictates more functionality. It's the perfect "middle ground".

    How's that for ambiguous?

I'm assuming it can do Video within Video?

And I'm not against using something higher end if it makes sense for me to learn it.

Yep. Video within video is pretty basic, as that stuff goes. You can even make the "in" video move and swirl around, if you're into that sort of thing.

Most of the heavy hitters will use Adobe Premier, Sony Vegas, and a couple of others. Adobe Aftereffects is handy for the fancy stuff - intros, outros, etc. In this video, the intro and outro were done with AfterEffects. The actual "video" stuff was done in Premier. It could have just as easily have been done in Powerdirector (not the intro/outro stuff). Again - if you're brand new, Powerdirector is going to already be over your head, but it's a good place to start if you're fairly serious. If you start off trying to use Adobe Premier, you're going to get lost.

This was done entirely in Adobe AfterEffects:

Nothing fancy, just a couple I've been working on this week. You can do much, much more with both. Feature length movies can be produced within Adobe Premier.

    CreekChub, nice videos.

Any good websites (or YouTube Channels) with tutorials for Premier and After Effects?

Have been working with both lately and looking to up the quality of videos I create for local businesses.

    Thanks.

I personally prefer to use Sony Vegas.

Even when I was just starting out and didn't know anything about video editing, I was able to use this editor with no previous experience of it whatsoever. It's a relatively simple concept, especially compared to Adobe After Effects, but whenever I make videos I am just looking for the basics and this definitely gets the job done.

If I really wanted a professional intro, then I'd really rather just pay someone to do one for cheap or buy a template and edit it myself in After Effects. There are obviously plenty of services/people out there who can do this, so why not?

I like PhotoStory3. It's free from Microsoft. For "Real Estate Tour" videos I like how it can "Zoom In" to a spot in a room...or "Zoom Out" starting with a spot in a room.

This effect adds more interest....for MY videos anyway.

ANimoto "throws lots of photos around the screen" but I feel the "Zooming in or out" with Transitions....works best for me.
