Adwords Tool vs Google KW Tool

OFFLINE MARKETING

Why is the local search volume different in the google kw tool and when I log into adwords.

Example:

Google KW Tool:

KW is Hair Salon San Antonio = Local Search 390

In Adwords KW Hair Salon San Antonio = Local Search 6600

Which one is correct and why the big difference?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

The local search is correct... the big difference is likely due to a broad match.

@theOP: not sure if you made this error, but I did a couple years ago and bought a useless domain because of the results. Like Nameless says, it's critical to check the "exact" box on the left in the keyword tool, and uncheck the "broad" results box.

Otherwise you get this inflated figure. Generally you expect 100s to a few 1,000 searches locally for things. If you start seeing 10,000+ look over at those check boxes. More nationally or internationally searched terms like memes get that many.

What is sad is that a lot of SEO companies STILL show "broad" when trying to sell their services to clients.

Many of my clients will tell me of all this traffic they were promised, and then I have to show them the real numbers in KW tool.

  True. I did put it on exact search when I was using the google tool but forgot to take it out of broad on the adword side. What an idiot.
