This was a cool experience today, thought I would share it.

I've just started setting up my offline services business, and haven't really started approaching people yet. I'm building out the site and properties, talking to friends and family, with an eye to August for serious selling.

So, I'm chatting with the guy who helped me set up a business bank account and Visa card today, and while I'm signing the paperwork he pulls up my site and starts asking me about it. I'm surprised. Then he shows me HIS site.

Turns out, he and his wife own a local dance studio. His site looks great, lots of amazing photos and a clean design. But he's only on page 2-3 of Google for his primary keyword, and doesn't show up on the top Google Places spots either. They've had the business for about 2 years and can't get any exposure online. This is a real shame because the studio has a great reputation and they have produced lots of professional dancers.

After a few questions and some quick chat about off-page SEO and Facebook Ads, I mention to him that we'll be offering 30% off our services through August, to generate some buzz and testimonials. I offer to analyze his site for him and send over the results. He says 'That would be great'.

Will he turn into a client? I'm not sure. What I did take from that experience is that getting to know people, finding out their passions and what makes them excited, is never a waste of time.

Pretty cool.
