So for the last few months I have been trying to figure out the best way to get 1.5M e-mail addresses opted in. Here's the LEAST dumb of all the ideas I have come up with.

I am considering conducting a voice broadcast campaign pitching the benefits of opting in to this super awesome exclusive mailing list. "Press 1 to get started!" Then, "blah blah blah." Then "Press 1 to CONFIRM that you wish to receive e-mail from 'My Company' in the future."

Now, before the list is loaded, the columns for "E-Mail" will already be present. I am wondering if there is a way to gather optins via voice broadcast? I mean do I take the records from whatever service I use like CallFire for instance and say; "here's is proof that bill, joe, bob, and jeff are opted in because they pressed 1 on this campaign twice - do not ban me!" lol

Again, I am still struggling with this - what do you guys think?

Where did you get the list of 1.5M emails?

No matter how you use these I doubt you will get many to opt in. As for the specific question you need to ask this of the service that you be using for your email list. What options do they offer for opt-in.

I suspect that all the major ones will nix this idea but you will only know for sure by asking them directly. "Asking for forgiveness vs. asking for permission" can be good advice but in this case it isn't. Ask your provider. That is the only answer that matters.

Personally if I was your provider I would cancel you the second you asked the question. Too much risk to lose white list status over someone who wants to find a way to Opt In 1.5M people they have no relationship with. So be aware that they may feel the same way so you risk them canceling your service. And would the few who would likely opt in be worth all this work and the risk?

I am 100% positive I can get a talented copywriter to help me write an offer that converts at 1%. I am getting 1% -2% opt ins on "broadcast offers." That doesn't bother me.

I think you are a cool guy - but don't ever tell me I can't do something (within reason) and I say that with the utmost respect. :-)

I am not one of the 95%...

For me it's not a question of "Can I do this, rather how?"

Where these came from? 1/2 we acquired the good ole fashioned way over a few years 06 to present. "In order to send you our application, what is your email?" It all then went to the CRM known as MS Excel. The other half was scraped

You have a business relationship with them? If so that half of the list changes things. Might even be able to get them to let you upload that list and send an email asking for opt-in. Talk to your account rep. I had a list of about 20k and since it was customers awebber let me opt them in without even the double opt. Of course this was a few years back.

Bee one thing I love about your posts is your can do attitude. I can be the devil's advocate with you because I know you will never let what I say stop you if you think it's right. Just wish you would update these after the fact to tell us what happened.

You leave us all in suspense.

Just got off the phone with Tim at Aweber.

All they need is to HEAR the business owner vocalizing their e-mail address themselves. A keypress is not enough because people will do that to simply get off the the phone. Even though I will already know what the e-mail address, their vocalizing it goes a long way.

Granted a nice chunk will take the time and space to not record their e-mail address, but rather to say; "You SOB, don't ever call my store again!!"

So, there will HAVE to be human filter to listen to all recording (MicroTasks) to make sure that they in fact did utter their e-mail address.

Better yet, some voice recognition can be thrown in to listen for the word "At."

Every e-mail address has "at" in it... but that still won't filter out the guy who will say "Call me again and I just might show up AT your door..." lol.

LMAO. And good to know. Big thanks to Tim at awebber (doubt he reads this) for the info.

Now I wonder how many will see the value in this knowledge for more than just voice broadcasting.

Take orders over the phone? Put them on the list.
Offer free conference calls? Put them on the list.
Using "tiny classified ads" to get people to call for a recording? Put them on the list.

I clearly understand the last one on the list. That's a goodie for sure! Can you explain the first two, and how you see it playing out? I am a little hazy on those still.

Phone Order (call in or they call you)
"Great Mrs. Smith. That will be $$.$$. We took down your email address for delivery confirmation earlier so I would like to offer you ______ today for joining our VIP email Club."
    "Sure"
"Great Mrs. Smith. To join our email club I will just need you to confirm your email address again it will only take a moment. Please speak each letter so we can verify it is correct."
    "F...A...K....E at gmail.com"
"Great Mrs. Smith I have F...A..K..E at gmail.com, is the correct?"
    "Yes"
"And you would like us to sign you up to our VIP email club, is that correct?"
    "Yes"

The Free Conference Calls are like a webinar but they call in and it is sound only. You could use the same script from the voice broadcast so when they call in they have a chance to opt in.

      Aaron,

Please send me a bill for whatever your normal hourly rate is.

      Wow.

You can build an ENTIRE almost completely automated sales funnel around this, designed to get them to call you....

Let's forget about this opt-in Aweber stuff (though that could and should be a part of it, but the brilliance you uncovered lies in that little "voice webinar" widget.

Here's how I am seeing it, in the case of conference calls (voice webinar) based on your example.

      Ring Ring

Voice Broadcast: "Explosive new mega ton customer loophole (I'm being a little ridic, just an example, follow me) 843,002 businesses have boosted their profits through the sky. Press 1 to learn the secret!"

      Press 1:

"Ok in order to join in on the 100% free, no charge to you explosive new mega ton customer loophole that got 843,002 businesses a profit boost, we first need your e-mail address so we can make sure you get a back up copy. Press 1 to continue"

      Press 1:

"Please state your e-mail address. Please repeat it two times. then Press #."

      Press #:

"Welcome to the mega ton customer loophole... then you can offer real value. "Check your business listing on Yext.com, Do SMS marketing" Etc. Essentially make it worth their time to actually sit there and listen. At the end of the call / pitch, your copy should have been written so well that at the end of the call, your next optin

"PRESS 1 TO SPEAK TO A LIVE PERSON" is through the roof.

You've also got a pretty good frame too. You won't be clamoring to them, they're ready to buy!
