I'm sure that I could manually upload via csv file from reports I've run using Places Scout or Mobile Renegade, but ideally, I'd like something that automates the process.

What are others that are running directory sites using for this?

If you are automatically adding content on a directory I think this is one of the fastest ways to insure Google won't send traffic to it.
(and maybe that isn't important to you)

Manually or automatically, there is no difference. Why would Google care if you uploaded mass listings in a list vs doing it manually? I could see your point if this were an auto blog discussion, but it is a niche directory. Has absolutely nothing to do with ranking.

No matter what the script is you use, put in a couple samples, export the database, and now you know what to rename your .CSV headers so it works with the database. Even if a script doesn't seem like it will "allow" you to bulk upload, you can do it directly from phpmyadmin in your server.

I have used it and it works quite well, although all it produces is a list of basic listings. If that is all you want, it is a great solution.

As I recall there are sites that scrape business directories listing starting
with By Country, City Town and so on as long they have YP or any other
Directories like Tompson and so on.

I am using the Vantage Theme...
(WordPress Directory Theme | AppThemes)

And manually entering all the listings...

Edit: Not because you can't upload the listings... You very well may be able to, I just don't have a way to scrap the listings I am uploading... Kind of an different niche.
