Is StatCounter safe to use?

I have a series of sites that I'd rather not use Google Analytics for, so was looking for an alternative.

StatCounter seems to be a good (free) option for Wordpress.

Some of my sites got hacked not too long ago, and whilst searching for sources of the hacking, I found posts relating to viruses on the StatCounter banners ads, and wondered if they could be related.

Has anyone had any problems with StatCounter?

    I'm hoping it is safe, as it worked fine. I guess it was a coincidence about the hacking, but didn't want to take any chances.

    I've used it for a few years as well. Works great and I they have a plugin for WordPress as well.

      Yes, I've been using their plugin, but apparently, as the free version is supported by banner ads, one of the ads was infected with code.

      I'm glad to hear others are using it safely, it renews my confidence in it.

      Time to renew my account I think!

        You might be able to go to the editor for the plugins and find where the embed code is for the ads and just delete it. = )

    I look at my stats on their site rather than through my wordpress admin (that's where the banner ads display? In the admin?)

    Yes, the ads show within the admin panel, but not sure if they do on the site. Presumably not if you haven't seen them.

    So much easier through the admin panel though. Worth looking into.
