When people get to a website through PPC, and then submit a form, is there a way to tell what keyword took them to the website on the form that they submit?

Right now, the bottom of the form that is submitted says:

form submitted on http://websitename. com/page-name/abunchofjumbledletters
#click #keyword #triggered

    Hi sodomojo,

Yes, you can track that information either by reports provided by the ad platform (assuming you are in a top tier ad platform), or via an analytic program like Google Analytics, or Piwik.

Which PPC platform are you using. If in Google Adwords, and just to start with so you know what is converting and what isn't go to....Tools....click on the + Conversion box ...you will be redirected to a conversion creator...click on website as the source and give it a name....where it says where the conversion happens I would say...Each time the conversion happens it has the same value (at least when you are starting off). In the next screen just choose "I make changes to the code". Take that code and paste it onto the thank you page (meaning the page where the person lands after submitting the form). This will start tracking all of the keywords landing on that page assuming all of the events have the same value. If they don't then you can either create different thank you pages or assign events on the page where the person is filling out the form depending on which option they choose on the form for example a one hour consultation will be more worth for you than a 30 minute consultation.

Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks

      Hi sodomojo,

After rereading your post I think you might be asking if you can have the keyword dynamically inserted in the the form data that is sent to an email, is that what you are asking? If so then yes, there is a way to do that in AdWords using the Dynamic Keyword Insertion feature.
      1. Add DKI to a URL parameter in your destination URL
      2. Use server-side scripting to insert that URL parameter value into a hidden form input..
      3. Modify your form submission script to include the keyword in your email content

        Sodomojo,

if the traffic coming to your website is coming through different sources, not only Adwords but Email Marketing, Facebook, Offline Calls etc. I would create specific URLs with the URL Builder which you can access here. Just thinking as you said the source was kind of messy when you looked at the form. This way you get the data much more organised.

        Thanks
