Hi guys,
I`ve been running Bing ads for awhile now and while sticking to it though some tough times where I was losing money hand over fist I managed with the help of prosper202 to finally `get` why you have to spend money to aquire the data in prosper202 to start to cut the fat from the campiagn and start to see profit.

Now when I check prosper I have some pretty cool stats to look at which I would never of had if I`d of cut the campaigns when things where going tough.

So now I can see I dont make any profit on Saturday or Sunday so I will totally cut those two days starting next week

Thursday and Friday are my best days with the conversions coming from 1pm till 11pm so I`ll drop my ad spend between those times from now

8 pm & 9 pm are the times I`ve had the most comversions so I`ll bump the ad spend right up during those two hours

And thats really my question... When I use the Bing ad preview tool I can see my ads are at position `1` and can see my `avg pos`will read something like 1.75

But many times when I actually check Bing search myself with a proxy (I`m in the uk and I`m targeting US) with my keyword I just wont be at position `1` so I go back to Bing ads preview and again the ad is showing in position `1`

Now I realise that the ad position is also reading `1.75` and not a bold `1` ! so I get there maybe some movement

So can any for you guys explain why I dont see my ads holding a strong position 1 when I manually search for the keywords ?

Also `if` I was actually holding at the top position when I check Bing search with a bid of say 2.55 which nails me to position 1.. now I know that on Fridays at 8 till 9 pm I get my best conversions would it be good to increase my bids even higher to say 3.55 would this find even more customers ect by increasing visibility in other areas maybe like the syndicate partners and yahoo search ?

Any advice would be great guys thanks

    Hi jimkirk1943,

PPC advertising is a real time auction where you are competing with other advertisers for the available ad slots. As you have discovered for yourself, you and your competitors can adjust bids based on day of week, or hour of day. They can also adjust bids based on location, and other factors.

The level of competition will vary based on location, day of week, and hour of day. So while you might have a solid #1 ad position in some cities, your competitors may have found local markets that convert higher and are currently outbidding you in those local markets.

Additionally, you may have some competitors that have outbid you, but also have a limited budget that causes their higher positioned ad to appear only intermittently. So it can appear that you have the top ad slot at the moment when there is actually another advertiser that has outbid you but their ad rarely shows due to budget limitations.
