I would try to break each aspect down into smaller goals. This can be more motivating as you achieve each mini goal and progress towards your larger goal.

Upfront payment is usually the best form of protection. Genuine clients appreciate that freelancers need to protect themselves and are usually happy to pay upfront.

IWriter doesn't pay very well to start with, but you can build up a profile to open up better paying jobs. It's quite simple as you just pick an article topic which catches your eye and write it....
