I reccomend solo ads and swaps. If you don't have any money to pay for solos just simply swap with others. The only thing is, for swaps you should have atleast a few hundred subscribers first.

Very well said. Its good to have some long-term projects / sites that are not promoted or spammed using programs. If you do this, your site will be more stable and shouldn't get "slapped" when google...
