When I am setting up a website with a PHP-script, I normally don't use a testsite first. But, then I add plugins/mods I like to have a test site to try them out first. Anyone else that does it this way...?

I often install it locally first. With wordpress, I copy the settings by hand and upload the same themes and plugins.

    I would use subdomains like:
    test.domain.com/<scriptname>.domain.com
    and the public is
    www.domain.com/<script type>.domain.com

I would suggest installing wampserver on your local hard drive. That will give you a chance to test out sites before uploading them to your actual server. wampserver is open source (free).

      Naha, why...?
I like the way I do it now.
Atleast I find out if the webhotels server is failing during test.
      Before I go public.

IMHO WAMPs is some what buggy to use. :p
