go to the wordpress plugin forums and try to fix a bug reported in someone's plugin...
good way to learn and there is plenty of support issues there from beginner to advanced.
obviously you want to write code too but this can speed up the rate at which you
understand what is actually going on and pick up more faster. worked for me :-)

I will suggest you to go to w3schools website, I consider it is good from tutorial point of view.
Before start learning just check some interview questions, that will help you to know which topic need more focus.

Don't just learn PHP. You're setting yourself up for failure in the long run. PHP is, historically, the wild-wild west of the development world. Thankfully there have been frameworks that have been developed which will ensure you're not opening yourself up to huge security risks, and which also make things easier, in that they abstract a lot of the database level development.

Learn Laravel. It's easier to use than normal PHP, produces readable code, and will benefit you as a developer, in that you're learning best practices, not just doing whatever works:

students regularly choose technical training over a free university education. For many young grads, this decision is a no-brainer, as vocational education in the country pairs apprenticeships with part-time classroom instruction, creating a clear path to gainful employment.Higher education and technical and vocational training are still so far from the requirements of the labor market and specifically in the private sector.

Start with W3schools, you can learn a lot of stuff there. Then, pick a framework and start learning about it(I use Laravel for example now, but in the beginning, I've learned the basics on W3schools). And the most important part-learn how to google. There is no good programmer without Googling
