Outsourcing app development - app security and source code

Hi all - I have just had an app built for me by an outsourced developer. Its a Windows desktop app .exe format. Before I start selling it I have a few questions I need answers to.

(1) Do I need to protect the app against unauthorized redistribution? As it stands now the .exe could just be shared by any buyer.

(2) What is the best way to protect the app? I've heard its possible to limit installation to only 1 or 2 machines?

I would really appreciate any feedback on this issue. Thanks.

    Hi, I am a programmer and I have produced around 65 apps for Windows. From security apps to parental monitors etc and I would say try to get the source code if you can - it makes it easier to sell the app and update it in future.
    Source code makes the value of any app go up a lot. when you sell it thats the first thing you get asked "does it have source code?"

    with regard to protecting the app, you can have several ways from serial numbers, to limiting how many uses it has and also installs. can i ask how much you are selling them for?
    is it worth adding protection because in my opinion any protection can be removed and gives more chance of being hacked and distributed.

    if you need any advice im happy to help as i have 15 years experience
