Very odd...Server won't accept upload of file because it thinks it is 0 bytes????

Ok,
This one has me stumped...

I am trying to upload a text file to one of my servers...it is a file that I downloaded from the server...and made changes to.

The file is only 432 bytes...

Now, no matter what program I am using, the file won't upload because it is giving me a "file is 0 bytes" error???

However, I can open the file and read the contents just fine...and I am sure that it contains the data and 432 bytes...

But the server just won't accept it...

Any ideas?

    Very strange - my first thought is that the server may think it's trying to download a binary file when it's a text file, but even that should have transferred correctly (but the file on the server may end up corrupted).

    But just to check - what is the extension on the text file? And what type of FTP program are you using (assuming you are FTPing it back to the site)?

      Thanks for the feedback.

      It's a .htaccess file.

      I've tried Filezilla, Windows, even the Server's own File Manager upload tool....

      No luck yet...

        And you have no problems transferring any other files?

        If so, then there's something global going on, and I would recheck anything you might have changed rights or access-wise on both the client and server computers in the last few days.

        If not, then something is special about .htaccess.

        A long shot: On the server - is it marked as Read-Only and the FTP program is just reporting the error incorrectly?

          It's definately and odd one...

          I am going to try to move to another machine and see if that might reveal that it is this laptop causing the problem...

          I read about this issue at the Filezilla forum and the poster seemed to think it had something to do with proxy servers...

          But I don't think that could be the issue because I'm not behind one...at least I don't think I am...

            Thanks for your help...

            I finally got it figured out.

            Oddly enough, I had just tipped over the storage level (by .03%)...

            Dumb as it sounds, the server was simply overwriting the file...but for some reason, just leaving the contents out because the server was over the limit...

            Anyway...I deleted some videos and it is back and running again.
