How do I move a WP blog?

on my domain, I have my blog installed in /blog

I used to have static HTML pages a level above that.

I'd like to move the entire installation up one level to the root, and nail up a static home page...when I do that, the blog will end up looking like it's in /blog so should I be able to do this move without breaking the links in Google (I know the static pages will break)?

It seems like this should actually just work the way I want it to.

Am I being naive or should this actually be that easy?

You just need to move the blog to the main as the link above Moving WordPress WordPress Codex . No need to make another installation. You must follow the directions exactly!

After that create a new front page with your content on it and then another page called blog with no content on it and use that as the posts page. In the WP dashboard go to Settings, Reading. Chose the Front Page Displays a Static page option. And just chose the correct pages for the front and the blog page for the posts.

Its important that you title the posts pages the same as the current blog directory so the links are not broken. In your case blog. But if you have the current blog in say the /wordpress directory then you should name the new posts page wordpress.

      Hi,

To share with you my real experience about this..

Being a noob (in PHP and the likes) I've read couple of references and tutorials on this topic and still unable to convince myself to do this.

Finally, i asked Hostgator online support service (chat) to do it for me..and for free.

But, at the beginning you just need to mention to them that you have tried without success and asking for their help.

They will be more than happy to do it for you.

Having said that, this advice only applicable for those having website at Hostgator.

      Thanks.
