Looking for JV Programmer

Former Brick and Mortar business owner (25 years plus) now entering the internet marketing field looking for programmer to develop 2 initial products with more to come. 50/50 split on all profits after cost.     Just a tip, if you want to partner with a programmer, you're going to probably have to pay them something also. Most of us have too much on our plate to run around working for ideas. Plus, most of us have plenty of our own ideas.

    I have to agree with wayfarer.

    As a software developer I get lots of proposals from people who have the next "great idea" and who just need a developer to make them happen. This has actually gone on for a couple of decades now. I'd say for every 10 "great ideas" 9 of them never see the light of day, and one goes on to become profitable to both myself and the person initiating it.

    With that real life track record I would never consider entering into a project with the only promise of compensation being 50% of the eventual revenue. What if it never gets to market? Or what if it does and makes a grand total of 500 bucks in sales, or is eclipsed by a rival product?

    Why not offer your programmer a few thousand dollars and a lesser percentage? If it really is going to be a great successful product then it is money well spent.

    Top quality programmers aren't going to bite. The biggest red flag is this: If you don't have the money to pay a programmer, the odds are good you don't have the money to execute the level of marketing needed to bring in serious money once the project is launched.

    Most programmer you'll find on the WF are also marketers who have plenty of their own ideas to implement. I have 3 such projects going on now.

    My advice is to pay for development and offer a bonus arrangement on profits, if you want to.

      Are you saying that you'll actually outsource your programmers for free, with the condition that you will receive a percentage of revenue from the resulting project?

      I'm curious how you handle situations where the resulting project doesn't make any revenue? Especially if you've signed the non-compete agreement so you can't reuse your code anywhere.

      On a separate note, how valid is a non-compete or NDA agreement between parties in the Philippines and the US? I'm currently dealing with the legal aspects of NDA's in Quebec vs Hawaii, so I imagine this must be even more challenging?

      If you seriously do that sort of work with that arrangement I invite you to send me a PM - really. I have a number of coding projects that I'd happily farm out if I didn't have to put out any money to get the work done.

    I'm in the "same boat" that you are so-to-speak. I have a killer idea and need a PHP programmer to help me out. I thought for a brief moment about looking for programmers on the Warrior Forum and I came across your post. I am asking around on Facebook and even posted a Craigslist ad and got a couple interested people that way.

    I would say odesk is a good option for you to look into.. but you wont get a quality coder or a trustworthy one to bite at your offer without giving something upfront to them or offering them a guarantee clause that is by a certain date at least if so much has not been earned or if they wish to exit the agreement due to it not being successful that you will agree to pay them a sum of x amount of dollars to buy out the 50% share of the product(s) you all create together...

    Just a thought if you are set on your ways of having someone partner with you and not wanting to give them something upfront that may help you get a little more response, maybe anyway!
