Need Help With Wordpress Membership Site

PROGRAMMING

I'm very new to all of this, and I'm trying to set up a Wordpress membership site.

I am setting up a product to sell that is an ebook and videos. I need to be able to sell it via PayPal, and when they purchase it an account is automatically created for them on the Wordpress site, so they will have access to the product.

How do I go about doing this?

Now that I think about it, it doesn't really have to be a Wordpress site. While I'm new to IM, I've been designing web pages for years, and have a good amount of experience in HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, and I've used just about every CMS out there, so I am not at all opposed to running a different type of site. It only needs basic membership functions, and that's pretty much it. As long as it can sell access to a members only section of the site, than I'll be happy.

So far, most of the Wordpress solutions seem to be very expensive. It's not that I'm a cheapskate... it's just that I live in my parents attic with my disabled girlfriend and 1 year old son, so money is very tight.

Does anyone have any experience with WP-Membership? That one's only $29.95/domain so I could at least get my first site up and see how it goes, and if I start making some decent money, I can make a decision to stick with it or move to something else. I was actually quite surprised to see there weren't any free plugins on WP.org that do this.

I am working on one myself I did a comparison of them and narrowed it down to wingmember, wishlist and Digital Access Pass.

I choose DAP (Digital access pass), there customer service is amazing, I have emailed like 3 times and always a response withing an hour or 2.

The reason I originally choose them was that they can do forums as well and there was a penny trial offer.

I actually have not seen DAP yet, it looks pretty decent. I like the 1 cent trial... that's reason enough to at least give it a try. Thanks a lot for the suggestion!

I'd take a look at Drupal for this - it's pretty easy to do this for free - I've forgotten the name of the module, but it's not hard to do.

  Thanks for the help, I ended up going with Drupal and used the Click2Sell module and Taxonomy Access Control module and it was up and running in no time!

  Sorry, I ended up not going with Drupal, I just made an HTML site and have the products sent automatically via email.

You could try this one - iSubscribe :: Membership Software
Its $44 so a bit expensive. I havent used it but I did use their DigiVendor software to sell downloaded videos. It worked well.

Since then I moved onto using Plimus.com. I did that so my customers werent locked into paying with just Paypal. However it doesnt give you a secure members area, but it does give secure downloads.

You could a secure paid for forum (like the war room on this site). There's software rom Boonex called Dolphin. It allows you to set up a social networking style site and you can sell memberships to various parts of the site (or all of it). The memebership/paypal script is built in.

Other more expensive options inlcude Locked-Area.com, memberwing.com and Your Members Wordpress Membership plugin

Apart from DAP Membership script, there are few such as wishlist, membergate, aMember, Memberstar, EasyMember Pro and others etc., etc.,

DAP looks interesting too.
