Does anyone know what causes this in windows?

Bienvenidos Programmers

Can anyone help with this problem? It would be greatly appreciated.

windows cannot find 'https whatever' make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click search

I searched google, lots of differing opinions, from adobe to whatever. Even microsoft didn't come up with anything. I get it when I click shortcuts on my desktop. Funny thing is it goes through anyway. But it is getting annoying.
Closest I can get to when it started, is service pack 3.
Hardly ever does it through IE, but always in firefox.

Just to get a little more information, when does this happen? Are you clicking a link on your desktop or does this happen anytime you go to a secure http site?

Windows error opening Internet shortcut or local HTML file - Firefox - MozillaZine Knowledge Base

The first suggestion for the cause is problematic extensions in Firefox. Does this happen if you click the icon while Firefox is already running?

Look over that page. I believe you will find your solution there.

      Again thanks for you time

To answer your question first. It happens just straight off the desktop
icons, before firefox opens, or as it opens.
And yea I got the impression that it had something to do with Firefox itself.
      Thanks for the resource.

I have to ask, what is Number_5 from? If you don't mind, of course.
I remember an old show called The prisoner used to have a guy called by a number. Or is it the Newer (showing my age here) Star Trek series:rolleyes:?

      Thanks for your help

Well Number_5 (I can't help but think of Stanley Kubrick movies when I address you) LOL
I appreciate your help, bottom line.

Anyway, to business at hand. You were right it was in the Firefox extensions. I disabled everything and it stopped. Then enabled one at a time and deleted two, (Really don't want to name them, in case I am wrong, hate to rain on a programmers parade), they were somewhat related. I haven't had time to check for the authors. The reason for that, is now it happens once in a blue moon. I may have another one that is by the same author or related somehow. I intend to do that today sometime. Gonna be harder to trace. I have thirty something (extensions).
Luckily I hardly ever used those two.

Kind of funny, I got an notification that someone had replied to this thread this morning. When I got here, nothing. I checked the name and he had been deleted from another post too. After I read what he wrote in gmail notification, must have been your friendly neighborhood spammerman.

        Thanks Number_5 be in touch
