Quick Wordpress ? re: categories

I've searched on wp.org and just can NOT find anyone who has an answer, although there are several asking.

You know how when you choose your permalink, how you can set it as mysite.com/category/post.html?

Does anyone know if its possible (and how!) to make it appear instead as:

category.mysite.com/post.html ? (make the categories a subdomain?)

Also - while I'm here ....

I only use WP minimally but want to expand it.

I know with the mu.wordpress you can have multiple blogs...

Is it possible, with a regular WP, to allow OTHER people to post articles or information, i.e., as a guest or registered user, where I have to approve it? (Sorry, WP newbie to a point, I usually use a different CMS system but it's getting old)

    I'll address your 2nd question about your users:

    WordPress has what's called roles. The default role when people register to your WordPress blog is "subsciber". But you can change that from inside your dashboard but first you should familiarize yourself with the existing roles and capabilities in WordPress

    So let's say you want to allow your users to be more active so that they write stuff but you approve it...I believe the role you would want to give them would be "contributor"

    Anyway...then you can change your settings inside your WP dashboard: Settings - General - New User Default Role and select from the drop down menu...that's it...done!

    Now your first question. My first instinct is to say no. But you never know I could locate a plugin and it could do what you want or there may be some magic snippet of code to add to your .htaccess file that can do it...
    let's see if you have other respondents or I'll look into it further for you.

    tanshi - thanks! That's exactly what I'm looking for! I must have been searching for the wrong information because I couldn't find it (but was looking in documents/help, not plugins - go figure!)
