How can I embed Trailers from Apple or IMDB???

I would like to get embeds from these sites.
I've been having a time trying to figure this one out forever it seems. Is it impossible?

hxxp://trailers.apple.com/

hxxp://www.imdb.com/features/video/trailers/

Would it also be possible to create an RSS feed?

Thanks!

I've looked into this before - apple doesn't provide RSS feeds for trailers, so they'd have to be scraped.

Well I'd like to not have the YouTube logo on the trailer.
Guess i'll host trailers myself or hire someone to tell me how to do so.

Without getting into the truism that most similar usages I've seen (even on YouTube) have had them taken down by their copyright owners...

the first response- scraping the content typically with Ajax- is correct enough. I didn't hear why this was unacceptable--- assuming that segment of conversation happened in a PM.

I can think of several other methods- can you narrow your criteria and provide some direction/form/limits on this request?

            Hi there,

Yes, content scraping sounds like this maybe the way to go. I have no issues with it , however I do not know how to go about it.Will this require a program?

I do apologize for my lack of technical 'savvy' , so unfortunately I cannot expound much technically. However, basically in a nutshell what i desire to do is to embed videos on my movie site from the the sites listed, Apple preferably. Simply put , if it is at all possible, i'd also like to use a script like magpie rss or simplepie to grab the feeds based on post title to get the trailers and add them as post custom field for example. if not I would settle for a simple embed code which I could insert manually.

The You tube route is not appealing at all, for numerous reasons.

You sound reasonably knowledgeable, tell me is there anything in your opinion I should be concerned with?

            Thanks

Hmmm, well the description of what you want to do is straightforward, and I understood it.

The issue with the very generally true method described by waveletbizonline - very sound advice- simply doesn't work with the two sites in question in that simple of a fashion. And it doesn't even work in a tragically complex fashion.

In a militaristic fashion known as a major cluster-f*** it does work, and that requires much savvy to lift videos from these sites. First, arranging to find the actual resources, next re-arranging those resources on your own site. It's not about copying and pasting any code. It's about reverse engineering their system in which they want relatively exclusive rights to play these trailers.

My comment about YouTube was that I have seen a host of movie trailers scraped and posted there- and while the url exists and the account hasn't been closed, the "content has been removed per YouTube's copyright policy..." blah blah blah. Nobody's going to jail, but if your site depends on kick-ass trailers, it will most likely depend on those you can finagle using gray methods.

Many companies will not really pitch a fit in the event their content is scraped - even though doing so is technically/potentially in violation of distribution channel copyrights (particularly because some distro channels obtain exclusive rights to certain trailers)... But then again I'm not an attorney- just a systems architect.

Well... i totally agree with all that you have said (and knew this by the way...)

As for Bellasys' suggestion, I also knew it would not work.(I guess he figured the same , as I never heard back from him.):p

My question to you and anyone else here in the end is HOW do I embed trailers from the sites I have listed? Is it possible or not? If I need a content scraper, what should I use?

          Looking for solutions.

          Thanks

Given that you're likely to take the advice of whatever is stated here, I'm letting you know that methods would vary according to the scale of your operation... with that caution in mind, here's a generalized flow:

Content Scraping- unless the source code shows direct access to the video such as what YouTube offers in their Embedding code... an easy method would be to use Firefox's video nabber. I tried that without success on your two sites- so the solution for that looks like Quick Time 7 Pro (29.99) which will copy the video source file. In many cases this would not be necessary, because you can actually see the raw source file in the code-- but these sites are difficult. One of them uses an iFrame, which means you don't see the name of the source file at all. QT7Pro should mitigate that circumstance

In the case where you can grab source code, similar to what YouTube provides, you place it on your webpages intact. Firefox's video grabber (or QT PRO) downloads and saves the Video to your hard drive so you can implement it yourself.

Typically this will not grab the playback container it's in, so the raw vid will need to be placed into your own wrapper for playback. I designed my own Flash player skins and I favor the Flash platform, however, I also use EZS3 as a total solution where I don't want video to bog down my Membership/Forum/Info sites. Many of my clients use EZS3 although I'm seeing some odd bugs with them and I can't tell if that's Amazon or what. I'm testing that out- there's another service who offers what they do for a one-time $129 instead of $20 month. Given that you're paying as you go for every bit of data when using Amazon S3 hosting, it can be expensive in larger scale apps.

Embedding video is easy on wordpress, you click a button and upload video source files, however I don't recommend that method at all.

Video is the most highly technical and potentially expensive endeavor. If your core business model depends on volume, you'd save time and money by paying a consultant to create a specialized workflow for you. If you just want to blog about your rants and raves and embed a few videos here or there, or have some sideline purpose for these videos (such as offering socially relevant material) and it isn't your main dig, then you would save time and money by investing in a tool like QT7Pro, and a service like EZS3 which will playback flash video (.flv/.f4v), .mov files lifted from Apple, .mp4 files lifted from IMDB, etc. and so on.
