    It's not the programming language that makes a programmer. Once you have learned how to program, the language comes down to reference and familiarization.
    Often times a program will determine the programming language to be used and many good programmers will know several programming languages fluently and be familiar with many others.

      It's like driving a car... once you can drive one make of car you should be able to drive any car!

      But if you are completly new to programming then I would recommend that you start with Visual Basic this will give you a good starting point to learn the basics of programming... after that you can then move on to learn object-oriented languages like Java/C#/C++

      Download a good IDE to assist you for example Visual Studio Express for Visual Basic/C++/C# or Eclipse for Java - both can be downloaded free of charge.

    I would agree with Ron almost word for word. Visual Basic is by far the easiest language to learn / program in and nowadays it is just about as powerful as any of the other languages.

    C#, in my opinion, though, is probably the most versatile and powerful, but Ron's advice is pretty much perfect.

    Good luck!

      I think you should more focus on what you find interesting.

      - Human Interaction / Design etc => UI programming/usability
      - Hardcore programming - C/C++ etc. Never bad knowing this since many programming languages steem from these languages.

      I started learning ORacle and during my first 10 years before becoming business analyst/manager/project manager I coped only knowing databases/datamodels/SQL. So much to do only there....

        I think it is good to start with really modern programming language to learn to think the "right" way. This means Java, C# and such.

        If you want to learn quickly, try PHP.

    cmbadal, if you mean bright future, i.e.; making money marketing on the web. IMO php would be best to start.

    Just start with passing variable through URL's ex.; yourdomain.com?name=cmbadal then populate the variables into your landing pages (or apply them in other ways). That's as simple as it gets. Buy a beginners book on php and visit php.net for examples. If you have a knack for coding the possibilities are endless.

    Best of luck!
